"When I was selected as a Rhodes Scholar in 2024, I knew it would be a life-changing opportunity. What I could not have anticipated were the countless moments, people, and experiences that would make the journey so memorable.
As applications for the Rhodes Scholarship open once again, I wanted to share a few photos from my first months at Oxford moments that capture a small part of what this experience has meant to me. From matriculating at the University of Oxford and joining the Rhodes Scholar Class of 2025, to formal halls, Rhodes House dinners, lab gatherings, college traditions, and everyday conversations with friends and scholars from around the world, every week has brought something new to learn and appreciate.
Alongside beginning my DPhil in Women’s & Reproductive Health, I have had the opportunity to engage in communities and causes beyond my research, including serving as Oxford SU Environmental Officer. One of the greatest privileges of Oxford has been being part of a community where curiosity, service, leadership, and ambition come together in such inspiring ways.
Looking back at these photos, I am reminded that some of the most meaningful parts of this journey are not found in titles or achievements, but in the friendships formed, perspectives gained, late-night conversations after formal halls, shared meals at Rhodes House, and the collective desire to create positive impact in the world.
For anyone considering applying this year: please apply. You do not need to have a perfect story. What matters is authenticity, purpose, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to making a difference in your own way.
Grateful to the Rhodes Trust, the University of Oxford my mentors, friends, colleagues, and family for being part of this journey so far."
Thank you to Rhodes Scholar Shubham Narwal for sharing his reflections on his first year in Oxford. Shubham is from India and is studying a DPhil (PhD) in Women’s and Reproductive Health.

As conflict, instability, and shifting global dynamics reshape the world around us, conversations about international security matter more than ever.
The Rhodes Symposium on International Security 2026 brought Scholars and the wider Oxford community together for a timely discussion on 'Hard Power, Soft Power: The New Security Equation' — held in remembrance of Professor Joseph Nye, a Rhodes Scholar and major intellectual force in the field of international relations.
“The Symposium offered a rare insight into the strategic and dynamic landscapes navigated by leaders tackling today's security challenges,” said Fahad Abdulrazzaq, Rhodes Scholar in Residence, host and organiser of the event.
Thank you to our speakers:
Sir Richard Moore, Former MI6 Chief and British Ambassador to Turkey
Dr. Rob Johnson, Director of Changing Character of War, University of Oxford
Ms. Avril Haines, Former U.S. Director of National Intelligence
And Moderator Steven Musholt, Downing Scholar/MPP Candidate, US Army Officer.
“It was a pleasure to be present once again at the annual International Security Symposium. We enjoyed a lively discussion amongst our panellists — two career intelligence experts and an academic commentator. I was pleased to see the engagement among the panellists and between them and the audience, both during and after the symposium itself. I would like to thank Scholar Fahad Abdulrazzaq, along with our Scholar Programmes team, for organising another highly successful event,” said Professor Sir Rick Trainor, Interim Warden of Rhodes House and CEO of The Rhodes Trust.
