Thought to contain Iris Murdoch's academic hood, this suitcase turned out to be full of early newspapers instead, the oldest from 1568! These papers are part of Phyllis Handover's collection, who researched print alongside Stanley Morison.

Drawn up in the 1930's, Sir Giles Gilbert Scott's plans favoured a 'bold design' for the first stage of Hartland House. Completed in 1938, it was the first building on site built specifically for use by students.

One of the joys of working in a library is sharing the skills that help preserve books for future readers. Next week we're hosting a bookbinding workshop, where participants will learn techniques used to rebind and restore well-loved volumes.
