Coinciding with the University's Meeting Minds weekend, this September, the Angus Library and Archive is putting on a special exhibition on William Tyndale, the first person to translate the New Testament directly from the original Greek into English.
Tyndale's translation as a Game Changer, and phrases that he coined still resonate today in 2026. No other English writer, not even Shakespeare, has reached so many readers.
Inspired by the 500th anniversary of the publication of Tyndale's translation, we will use treasures from the Angus - including Tyndale's 1536 New Testament - to take you on a journey through Bible translation from the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries.

Did you know? The background of our distinctive Library window 🪟
In the middle of our college library, there is a large, stylised map of the world etched in glass. The map features animals and trade products associated with various regions at the time of the window's creation. Some places have names we no longer recognise today, and there is an unfamiliar tower depicted in the north of the UK.
The window was part of the Glasgow Empire Exhibition in 1938, an international exhibition to showcase and boost the economy of Scotland during recovery from the depression of the 1930s. It also depicts the Tait Tower in Glasgow, which was constructed for the exhibition and dismantled in 1939.
It's not known where the window was displayed during the exhibition, and even more unclear how it came to be built into the fabric of the Regent's library. We'll need to delve into the college archives to try and find out!
You can learn more about the exhibition on the BBC podcast 'Who did we think we were?' - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002yxt2?

During the long vacation, Regent's Principal, Professor Sir Malcolm Evans, tried his hand at serving lunch!
One of our favourite things about Regent's? We're one community, where everyone is equal and we all get stuck in 💙

Have you noticed the little “book by RPC staff” stickers in the College Library before? ❤️
We’re lucky to have lots of books written by Regent’s academics and community members in our collection - like this one co-edited by Regent’s-own Prof Anthony Reddie and colleagues Tim Judson and Alison Walker.
So keep your eyes peeled next time 👀
