# Oxford University's current Professor of Poetry, Alice Oswald, is giving a talk entitled, "The Life & Death of Poetry: a distracted walkabout with T.S. Eliot & others."
The Professor of Poetry lectures were conceived in 1708 by Berkshire landowner Henry Birkhead and began after he bequeathed some money so it could be a valuable supplement to the curriculum. The current Professor of Poetry is Professor Alice Oswald. She will be giving one lecture each term for the four years of her tenure.
The event is being held on the 2nd of June, at 5 pm, in the Gulbenkian Lecture Theatre, St Cross Building, Oxford. A drinks reception will follow the talk.

(ORE) has put out a call for papers for its upcoming issue, to be published in Autumn 2022.
The theme is No Theme (!) and the deadline for submissions is on the 15th of April, 2022. The word count is between 5,000 and 8,000 words and the prescribed style is MHRA.

Come listen to faculty candidates presenting on their research! In association with St Hilda's College, the English Faculty is in the process of an of in English. As part of the selection process, all candidates will be delivering short presentations on their research on Monday the 14th of March, from 9 am till 12:45 pm, in the Pavilion at St Hilda's.
Attendees will be asked to complete a form providing feedback on each candidate, and each form will be taken into account by the committee as part of their decision process. So if you're able to attend, try to stay for the entire duration of the event!

Professor Sophie Ratcliffe is seeking a temporary for her current book project entitled The Child in the Library, which deals with ideas of institutions of knowledge, access to knowledge, histories of childhood, and material culture. The project has a particular, but not exclusive, focus on the 19th century.
If you're knowledgeable enough about the 19th century and confident in your ability to do research on periodicals of the time but are also equally interested in theory and philosophy, consider sending a cover letter and CV to [email protected]. The deadline is on Thursday, the *3rd of February*.
The successful applicant will have to be based in Oxford between February and June 2022 and be available for in-person meetings and ready to do research in the Bodleian.
