⚠️ We have recently been informed that the Health and Safety Executive NorthernIreland (HSENI) have carried out a visit to a BFPA member facility during which the requirement to implement guarding on hose swagingmachines was raised.

Despite the member presenting reasonable and practical arguments – specifically the challenges associated with:
⚫ Varying hose types,
⚫ Different fittings, and
⚫ The ability to operate swaging machines from both the front and rear,
HSENI have advised that failure to implement suitable guarding will result in issuing of a Prohibition Notice.

For clarity, a Prohibition Notice is a legal order requiring the immediate cessation of an activity where there is deemed to be a risk of serious personal injury. As a result, the member is now having to explore engineered solutions to comply with the requirement or risk enforcement action.

⚑BFPA ACTION⚑
βœ… Engaging with swaging machine manufacturers to understand potential technical solutions
βœ…Raising this matter with our HSE contacts in England to seek clarification and alignment on expectations.

➑️ MEMBER INPUT
This is a potentially significant issue for many members operating hose assembly facilities. If you have:
⚫ Encountered similar challenges,
⚫ Implemented any guarding solutions
⚫ Or wish to provide feedback or support

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
