This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Lincoln College Boat Club Society (LCBCS), which has supported generations of Lincoln rowers with boats, oars and equipment to ensure rowing thrives and remains accessible to all 🚣
To celebrate, we look back on the Society's impact over the past five decades and share memories from alumni that offer a glimpse of the friendships, mischief and characters that have shaped Lincoln rowing over the years.

One of the great things about Lincoln is the chance to step outside the classroom and learn alongside people with different interests and perspectives.
Fourteen Fellows, students and friends of the College joined Lincoln Fellow Rebecca Menmuir and Chaplain Jonny Torrance for a day-long pilgrimage from Eynsham to Oxford, sharing readings from Chaucer, Tolkien, Wordsworth and T.S. Eliot along the way.
The group visited the site of the lost Abbey of Eynsham, picnicked among the ruins of Godstow Abbey and stopped at St Frideswide's Treacle Well in Binsey, which is dedicated to the patron saint of Oxford and the University, before returning to Lincoln for Evensong in Chapel.
(And yes, the Eynsham toll bridge still charges a hefty 5p.)

Lincoln congratulates DPhil candidate Maria Murad, who has been awarded an Early Career Visiting Fellowship from the Institute of Historical Research.
In her new blog, Maria writes: “I am grateful to the Lincoln community for nurturing my interest in history, despite me being an anthropologist by training. This has led my doctoral research, a history of anthropology, to be in a much stronger position than it would have been otherwise.”
Maria also reflects on the encouragement and sense of belonging she found at Lincoln: “No place feels more like home to me outside of my hometown in Kentucky than Lincoln.”
The Fellowship will enable Maria to spend six months in residence at the Institute during the writing-up period of her dissertation, while gaining invaluable experience among scholars working across history and other disciplines.
