A HUGE good luck to the **50 SSMJ children** taking part in the **Oxford Half Marathon Schools' Mile** on Sunday morning! ๐ŸŽ‰

That's the **biggest team we've EVER entered**, and we couldn't be prouder of everyone getting involved! ๐Ÿ’ช

A massive thank you to **Mr Guy** for organising everything behind the scenes, including sorting all those T-shirts and race numbers! ๐Ÿ‘

We hope you all have a fantastic morning, enjoy the atmosphere and, most importantly, have FUN!

๐ŸŒŸ **Exploratory Learning at SSMJ!** ๐ŸŒŸ

It was wonderful to welcome so many parents and carers to our **Exploratory Learning session** yesterday!

A huge thank you to **Mrs Tofts** for sharing our unique approach to learning in Early Years and Key Stage 1, and explaining how we encourage independence, curiosity, creativity and a real love of learning.& ;

Thank you also to all the families who came along, asked such thoughtful questions and engaged so enthusiastically โ€“ even having a go at a little exploratory learning themselves! ๐Ÿ™Œ

We love having opportunities to share what makes learning at SSMJ so special!

**Couldn't make it?** We're running the same session again on **Monday 12th October at 2:30pm**. All Reception and KS1 parents and carers are welcome!

An early start on a grey Friday morning, but there's plenty of positivity (and croissants!) to keep us going!

Today, our wonderful staff team are spending time celebrating the successes and achievements of the past year, before looking ahead together at our priorities for the year to come.

A valuable opportunity to reflect, share ideas and plan how we can continue to make SSMJ the very best it can be for our children.

And let's face it, everything is better with a croissant or two! ๐Ÿฅโค๏ธ

๐Ÿฏ๐ŸฆŠ The Tiger and the Fox! ๐ŸฆŠ๐Ÿฏ

Year 1 have been busy describing the characters from their story. They talked about what makes a character brave, clever and kind.

What a brave and clever fox who outsmarted the hungry tiger!

This morning, we joined schools across the country for the Great Big Live Assembly, celebrating Black History Month together.

It was a brilliant opportunity for our children to learn more about Black history, culture, achievements and contributions, while reflecting on why Black History Month matters.

A fantastic way to come together, celebrate, learn and be inspired! ๐ŸŒŸ

We had some very special visitors at SSMJ today, as two **Oxford United Womenโ€™s players** came along to meet some of our Year 5 and 6 girls!

The girls had a brilliant time getting stuck into passing, shooting and dribbling activities, before having the chance to chat to the players and ask lots of questions.

They absolutely loved the experience โ€“ a fantastic opportunity to meet inspiring female footballers, learn from them and enjoy being active together.

A huge thank you to **Oxford United Women** for giving up their time to visit us. We loved having you! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™โšฝ

Every year, our fabulous PTA come into school to help children across St Mary & St John create artwork for our school calendar โ€“ and this yearโ€™s theme fits perfectly with our OPAL work: โ€˜Children at Playโ€™. The children have really enjoyed getting creative and thinking about all the different ways they play across our school.

A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who are giving up their time to come in and support the children with their artwork, and to everyone working behind the scenes to plan, organise and bring the whole project to life. Weโ€™re very grateful for all the time and effort that goes into making our calendar happen each year โ€“ and we canโ€™t wait to see the finished result! ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŒŸ Playground Helpers in training! ๐ŸŒŸ

Some of our brilliant Year 6 children have volunteered to become Playground Helpers, supporting our youngest pupils during lunchtimes.

Before they get started, they receive training with Ms Woods, giving up some of their own lunch break to learn new playground games they can teach, as well as thinking carefully about how they can help younger children join in, have fun and stay safe.

Itโ€™s a fantastic opportunity for our eldest pupils to develop their leadership, responsibility and confidence โ€“ while making a real difference to others in our school community.

A BIG thank you to Ms Woods for preparing them so well, and to our fabulous Year 6 volunteers for stepping up to help! ๐Ÿ‘
