For far too long the West has made terrorist extremists like the Taliban, Al-Qaeda and ISIS the basis for all impressions of the Muslim faith. These extremists also believe that they represent all Muslims, including us.

This is not, and never will be, the case.

There has never been a better time for a demonstration to show the true heart of British Muslims. A protest on this scale has never been done before. In a single event, we will convey to our home and international communities, Muslim and non-Muslim, brown, black, or white, that international Muslims will never stand with the Taliban. We will never support their treatment of those unfortunate enough to be in their grasp. Not on the basis of gender, sexuality, or ethnicity.

We believe in love and tolerance. The kind taught by the Prophet in the Qur’an, and the kind informed by our basic humanity. We believe in the right of every woman and man to choose their spouse, their religion, their education and their life.

We are not asking for another war. We are simply showing that they are not us. That British Muslims refuse to be associated with their crimes. That we ask the British government to support the women and girls of Afghanistan. That we do what we can for a country that is having its rights, its democracy, and its livelihood stripped away by a minority of men.
