📍Title: Another university is possible: Building an equitable Open Science infrastructure in the shadow of the commercial publishing system

💡Abstract
Paulo Freire was acutely aware of the existential importance of hope for educators. Without hope, ‘it becomes impossible to muster the strength we need for a fierce struggle that will recreate the world’ (2004, 8). This is also about reimagining the university and the ways in which we all create and share academic knowledge.

Drawing on his own research into bibliometric coloniality and the commercial publishing system, Dr David Mills reflects on the political and economic obstacles that face UNESCO’s vision of equitable Open Science.  What role can we all play in repairing historical injustices in the dissemination of academic knowledge? Is there an opportunity to build and use alternative infrastructures in the shadow of the commercial publishing system?

Hope you can join this inspiring session!
