Dragi susținători,
Am decis să suspendăm ediția 2023 a Școlii de Vară Oxford for Romania, precum și proiectul așa cm îl știm. Au trecut 7 ani de la prima generație de tineri români ce s-au alăturat acestui proiect unic, care a adus tuturor celor implicați mult entuziasm, dar și nopți nedormite.
Ceea ce a început într-o seara cu prieteni, într-o sufragerie din Oxford, a evoluat într-o experiență transformațională pentru 120 de tineri din România și pentru cei peste 50 de profesioniști români din Marea Britanie și dincolo de hotare care au făcut proiectul posibil.
Cu toate acestea, contextul post-pandemic și post-Brexit ne-a arătat că proiectul așa cm ni l-am imaginat nu mai este sustenabil. În acești ani, comunitatea noastră s-a dispersat. Membrii echipei noastre executive de bază s-au mutat din Oxford și, odată cu trecerea la mediul online, am pierdut baza fizică care ne-a adus împreună la început. Gestionarea familiilor, a carierelor și a activității pro bono a devenit o provocare mai mare. În final, organizarea școlii de vară la Oxford s-a dovedit a fi tot mai costisitoare, așa că a trebuit să reconsiderăm viabilitatea întregului proiect.
A fost un proces dificil care ne-a condus la decizia de a suspenda școala de vară, programul nostru emblematic. Pe măsură ce încercăm să regândim structura organizației noastre și comunitatea de voluntari, căutăm modalități care ne permit să rămânem fideli etosului nostru: generozitate, transformare și unitate.
Ce urmează?
În această nouă etapă, vrem să continuăm să onorăm "Oxford for Romania", un nume care a adunat o comunitate cu viziuni asemănătoare. Contribuțiile și sprijinul vostru au fost esențiale în ducerea la îndeplinire a acestei viziuni - pentru asta vă suntem veșnic recunoscători!
Cu un viitor mai sustenabil în minte, am făcut câteva schimbări. Dorim să te informăm că:
- Pentru un proces decizional mai eficient, am redus dimensiunea Consiliului de Conducere. Trei din cei nouă membri au fost aleși pentru a face parte din noul Consiliu. Alma Iatan, Ciprian Plostinar si Cristian Soitu vor petrece restul anului 2023 redefinind viitorul organizației.
- Îi invităm pe cei care au investit timp și efort în acest proiect să ne contacteze la adresa [email protected] cu propuneri care pot da viață următoarei etape a "Oxford for Romania".
Un raport detaliat despre ceea ce am realizat în 2022 va fi împărtășit în curând. Până atunci, vă dorim tot ce e mai bun și sperăm că veți rămâne aproape de noi.

Dear supporters,
We have decided to put on hold the Oxford for Romania Summer School 2023 and the project as we know it. It’s been 7 years since the first cohort of young Romanians joined this unique project which brought everyone involved lots of enthusiasm, as well as sleepless nights.
What started as a nice idea in a living room in Oxford, became during this time a life-changing experience for 120 young people in Romania and a thoroughly fulfilling project shared by more than 50 Romanian professionals throughout the UK and beyond.
However, the post-pandemic and post-Brexit context showed us that the project, as we imagined it, is not tenable anymore. During these years, our community has dispersed. Members of our core executive team moved out of Oxford and, as we shifted online, we lost the physical base that brought everyone together in the first place. Juggling families, careers and working pro-bono for the charity became a greater challenge. Finally, organising the summer school in Oxford became ever more costly, so we had to reconsider the viability of the entire project.
It’s been a difficult process that led us to the decision to pause the summer school, our flagship program. As we attempt to reframe the structure of our organisation and volunteering community, we are looking for ways that allow us to stay true to our ethos: generosity, transformation and togetherness.
What’s next?
In this new phase, we want to continue honouring “Oxford for Romania”, a name that brought together a like-minded community. Your contribution and support was instrumental in bringing this vision to life - for that we are forever grateful!
With a more sustainable future in mind, we’ve made a few changes. We would like to let you know that:
- For smoother decision making we reduced the size of our Board of Trustees. Three of nine members were voted to be part of our new Board. Alma Iatan, Ciprian Plostinar and Cristian Soitu and will spend the remainder of 2023 redesigning the future of the charity.
- For future organisational design we welcome contributors who invested time and effort into this project to contact us at [email protected] with proposals that can bring to life the next stage of “Oxford for Romania”.
A report detailing what we’ve achieved in 2022 will be shared soon. Until then, we wish you all the best and hope you stay close to us.
