Our Story

‘There is something very special about Teddies’ - Tatler Schools Guide 2019

A great deal goes into making Teddies; it is a refreshingly different kind of school, with an emphasis on modern educational thinking and a collaborative, discussion-based approach to learning. That emphasis is born out across all aspects of the School, whether it be in the classroom, on stage, on the sports field or in the boarding House, every inch of the School’s 100 north Oxford acres fizzes with diverse interests and enthusiasms.

Community is a byword for everything the School does; it is well known for the strength and friendliness of its community and the quality of its pastoral care. Beyond School, pupils enjoy being part of the wider community of Oxford, a beautiful, culturally sophisticated university city offering tangible connections to the real world. Pupils engage in a thriving programme of public service, with options as diverse as coaching pupils at local primary schools and shearing sheep at the local community farm.

The North Wall arts centre and the Ogston Music School combine to create St Edward’s own cultural quarter in North Oxford, whilst the strength of the art and design facilities rival that of many dedicated programmes. The School’s Dance Department enjoys tremendous popularity among pupils; that popularity has translated into performances of exemplary quality.
