HERTFORD FACTS: Did you know that the library in OB Quad was originally Hertford College’s chapel?

Consecrated in 1716, it formed part of Principal Richard Newton’s ambitious vision to rebuild the entire college in a classical style. Although the full plans were never realised, the building has remained at the heart of Hertford for over 300 years.

We’re showing you the new library design from exactly the same perspective – giving a glimpse of what we hope to see this time next year ✨🏗️

Remember how we used to look from the front…? 👀

Actually, not much has changed – apart from a little scaffolding peeking out from behind! 🏗️

MILESTONE: Just one year to completion! 🏗️👷

It's fascinating to see how our new library is shaping up. Here are a few photos, with bonus captions ✨

Photo 1:

Under the former chapel and in the extension area, back propping of the ground floor slab has been installed after the removal of the falsework and some of the temporary works’ braces 👷

Photo 2:

In the West Range, the specialist floor sanding and finishing works have now been completed in the main rooms on both the first and second floors 💫

Photo 3:

The concrete blisters on the capping beams are being removed by wire cutting to reduce the vibrations. The vertical concrete works from the ground to first floor are also progressing, and decking to the first floor has commenced 🏗️
