Proving that friendships made at university can last a life time...over 60 alumni came back to St Hugh’s for a jubilee lunch, celebrating the 50th, 60th and 70th-plus anniversaries of their matriculation. It was wonderful to welcome alumni back to St Hugh’s during Oxford’s Meeting Minds weekend. From those who matriculated in the 1950s to recent graduates of the 2020s, alumni travelled from near and far to reconnect with friends, share memories and celebrate being part of the St Hugh’s community. Research by Prof Thomas Püschel St Hugh’s Tutorial Fellow published in Biology Letters, finds that the strong bond between chimpanzee mothers and their offspring drives them to continue carrying their dead infant (a behaviour known as infant co**se carrying - ICC), and that the cause of an infant’s death is the most consistent explanation for how long its mother carries it. Congratulations to St Hugh’s Lecturer in Management and Senior Fellow in Management Practice at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford Dr Alex Connock, who has been presented with two awards for his excellence in teaching. The first was a Teaching Innovation Award at Saïd Business School; and the second was the Divisional Teaching Excellence Award 2026 at Social Sciences Faculty, in recognition of his contribution to innovative and professionally engaged teaching within the Saïd Business School. His teaching integrates academic learning with real‑world application, enabling students to develop practical skills alongside conceptual understanding
