The children and grown ups are extremely proud to announce that we got our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) PLATINUM Award last week with a score of 100%.
A huge thank you to the Play Team who facilitate magical playtimes every day, to all you parents and carers who source and bring us loose parts but mostly to the children who demonstrate to us daily the playful nature that is inside all of us, whatever our age ❤️.

I love this gift to me from one of our Year 2 children. We’ve been learning Shakira’s song, ‘Try Everything’ and the children know that I love it. This was written out at home and presented to me proudly yesterday. ❤️

Children’s Right Article 29: I have the right to an education which develops my talents and abilities.

Our Passions Sharing assembly is one of our platforms for children to showcase what they love.

This week, Blaise and Ephey shared their passion for beatboxing. They demonstrated, taught two others and finished with an epic battle.

Blaise explained that music is his passion. He heard a beat on a record one day and it went from there. We all now know something about threes two young people that connects us to them.

So courageous and inspiring; the applause went on for a long time!

Yes education is about the ‘three Rs’ but it’s underpinned by providing an environment where children and adults are confident to show up as their authentic selves. To belong.

As Brené Brown puts it: “True belonging doesn’t require us to change who we are; it requires us to be who we are.” ❤️

Observing play in our Year 2 class fills my heart with joy. We decided this year to align our provision for this age group with the vast amounts of research that play is crucial for healthy child development. The children took part in ‘normal’ teacher input, related to money, on the carpet and they completed some exercises for their books. The beauty comes later when a group of 12-15 decided to apply that learning by making a restaurant. They got real coins out, priced things up and cooked and sold pizza and chips with a sharing platter ‘just £5 extra’. I saw collaboration, problem-solving and conflict resolution, not to mention the maths skills. Mrs Watts observed and skilfully intervened, asking questions to deepen children’s learning. This practice is sadly rare in UK schools which is a travesty. It’s simply what children whose brains are still developing faster than at any other time in their lives, fundamentally need. Bravo Mrs Watts and our EYU/KS1 team. I am so proud ❤️.

Play isn’t a luxury - it’s essential for healthy child development and a children’s right (Article 31 UNCHRC).
Martin built this incredible mansion for a stranded polar bear, Nanook, that the children had been learning about. Zoom in to see the intricate design, detail and symmetry. It’s simply stunning.

Congratulations Roshan for your excellent piano performance in our Passions Sharing assembly today.
‘I feel great. I messed up the second piece a bit but I just carried on.’
What a great role model and excellent courage.

Beyond proud of this Learning Exhibition co-created with the children in Reception Class in response to their Enquiry: Who has the right to share their knowledge? The use of the outdoor classroom for the Dino Cave was genius and I love their motivational sentences inspired by the resilience of Mary Anning. There are so many opportunities for them to write and they were so excited to show their parents all their beautiful work ❤️.

Our first Learning Exhibition of the term was INCREDIBLE. Beautiful work and engaged children, who were invested in the story of Mary Anning and who had co-created their Museum of Curiosities with their teachers. Congratulations Congo Class and teaching team ❤️.
