🚨 SCAM ALERT – Beware of Fake Police Data Requests 🚨

We've been made aware of scam messages claiming to be from police forces, asking recipients to provide information to assist with an investigation.

The message may appear to come from organisations such as:
👮 Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary
👮 Thames Valley Police
👮 Surrey Police
👮 Sussex Police

⚠️ Don't be fooled.

Before clicking any links or providing personal information:

✅ Verify the request through the police force's official website or by calling 101.
✅ Check the sender carefully.
✅ Never provide personal or financial information unless you are certain the request is genuine.
✅ If you're unsure, don't click the link.

🔒 If you receive a suspicious message:
• Delete it.
• Report it as spam.
• If you've already clicked the link or shared information, contact your bank immediately (if financial details were involved) and report it to Action Fraud.

Your safety matters. Stay alert and help protect yourself and others from scams.

Today, we proudly celebrate the outstanding men and women of the Oxford Brookes University Security Team.

Whether it's day or night, in sunshine or rain, our officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, working tirelessly to keep our students, staff, visitors and the wider Oxford community safe. From responding to emergencies and providing first aid, to preventing crime, supporting vulnerable people, delivering safety campaigns and simply being a reassuring presence on campus, they make a real difference every single day.

🌡️☀️ Extreme Heat Warning – Stay Safe, Brookes! ☀️🌡️

The Met Office has issued an Amber Weather Warning for Extreme Heat on Monday 22 June and Tuesday 23 June, followed by a Red Weather Warning from Wednesday 24 June to Thursday 25 June.

The warning covers much of England, including Oxfordshire.

Please take extra care during this period:

💧 Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water
🕶️ Wear light clothing and seek shade where possible
🏠 Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day if you can
🤝 Check in on friends, flatmates and colleagues, particularly those who may be more vulnerable
❤️ Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke and seek help if you feel unwell

🚨 Travel Disruption Alert – Wednesday 17 June 2026 🚨

Oxford Brookes students, staff and visitors are advised that traffic congestion is expected in and around Oxford city centre this afternoon due to an event taking place at the Oxford Union.

📍 Please note: St Michael's Street and the surrounding area will be subject to road closures and security cordons from 3:30pm, which may result in significant delays and disruption to local traffic and pedestrian routes.

• Allow extra time for your journey.
• Consider alternative routes where possible.
• Avoid St Michael's Street and the immediate surrounding area.
• Check public transport services for any delays or diversions before travelling.

We encourage everyone travelling to or from the city centre this afternoon to plan accordingly to minimise disruption to their journey.

🏍️🔒 Motorbike Theft Prevention – Stay Secure 🔒🏍️

We're aware of an increase in motorbike thefts across Oxford and would like to remind our students, staff, and visitors to take extra precautions to protect their bikes.

✅ Crime Prevention Tips
• Use strong, high quality chains and locks, thinner chains can be easily cut.
• Secure your motorbike to a fixed object whenever possible.
• Store your bike in a locked garage or secure location if available.
• Consider additional security measures such as alarms, trackers, immobilisers, and security lighting.

👮 What the Police Are Doing
Thames Valley Police Neighbourhood Policing Teams, alongside specialist departments, are actively tackling motorbike theft across Oxford. Positive action has already been taken, including arrests, and investigations remain ongoing.

👀 Stay Vigilant
If you see suspicious activity around motorbikes or vehicles, please report it to the police.

Do Summer Safely – we’re supporting Counter Terrorism Policing’s summer campaign.

We’re supporting Counter Terrorism Policing’s Summer campaign. The campaign is encouraging the public to look out for each other, trust their instincts and report anything that doesn’t feel right.

The key advice is:

- If you see something that doesn’t feel right report it to security or online at gov.uk/ACT. In an emergency dial 999.
- Trust your instincts, you won’t be wasting our time.
- Anyone can complete the ACT e-Learning on ProtectUK, this will help you be prepared in the event of a terrorist attack.
