Northern House Academy

Northern House Academy Northern House Academy is a Special School in Summertown Oxford. Northern House School officially opened in 1938. In 1972 there were 43 pupils on roll.

We are a special school for pupils who have been identified as having Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. All our pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) therefore SEND is at the centre of everything that we do at the school. Northern House was built in 1824 and has a long history of being an educational establishment for pupils with special and additional needs dating back to 1840. Since 1938 the school has continued to grow in terms of size and rationale. This increased to 53 in 1963 and to 88 in 2014. The school was at risk of closure in the late 1970s, but a successful campaign led to the school remaining open. Although the main house and stable block, built around 1824 and now listed, still provide teaching accommodation, the school has seen a reasonable amount of building over the past decade. In 2004 a new hall and two classrooms were built to increase capacity by one class, and to provide a hall fit for purpose. The demolition of 3 temporary classrooms in 2011 led to the er****on and opening of a two-storey block, providing accommodation of five classrooms, a library, a SEND base, a music room and a purpose-built food technology room. This development has provided pupils with a spacious, bespoke learning environment. On 1st February 2020, Northern House Academy joined The Gallery Trust – a multi-academy trust based in Oxfordshire. The Gallery Trust is dedicated to providing outstanding education and support for young people with SEND.

We need Pastoral Support Workers 32 hours per week, 38 weeks a year working term time only. Salary is £22,305 to £24,345 depending on experience. The role of the Pastoral Support Worker involves setting appropriate boundaries for children, supporting with their education and care and liaising with families to get the best possible outcomes.

We also need Teaching Assistants 31.25 hours per week, 38 weeks a year working term time only. Salary is £16,130 - £17,667 depending on experience. Teaching Assistants at Northern House Academy aid the delivery of creative learning that motivates our pupils and supports them to achieve.

We are looking for an organised and motivated Receptionist to add to our Office team.

The role of receptionist involves being the first point of contact for anyone visiting or calling our school. You will be professional at all times and will be flexible to manage multiple calls or visitors at the same time. In quieter times you will support the school by assisting with administrative tasks. Being a receptionist at Northern House Academy is not a desk job, you will take children to class and carry out tasks across the school. No two days at Northern House are ever the same and this role will suit someone who likes to work in a varied and dynamic role.

This role is term time only working 38 weeks per year. It is 37 hours per week and the working pattern is:
Mon, Weds, Thurs 8:00am – 4:00pm
Tues 8:00am – 4:30pm
Friday 8:00am – 3:00pm
The actual annual salary starts at £17,068 (£20,493 FTE)
