I have enjoyed ensuring Slade Nursery School is a safe place to be, with lots of opportunities for children to learn and develop. We have built a garden, developed a creative studio, a library, a food hub and worked together to ensure effective support for each child as an individual.

Sharing a book with someone who knows me well will help me develop a life long love of story. Choose a book that you know will interest me and be prepared to share that story with me again and again.

I am building relationships in the freedom of the outdoors, sharing experiences in a relaxed and mutually enjoyable way.

Have you told your child a story recently, without using a book? It's , so if you haven't thought much about storytelling, here are 3 reasons to give it a go:

⭐️ 1. It helps children really listen. It can be a made-up story, or re-telling a story you've read in a book, or a family story - children often like to hear stories from parents' and grandparents' childhoods, or from when they were even younger ("I remembers that time when we …").

⭐️ 2. It gives children ideas and story language to try out themselves - "It reached higher and higher, until…". This will also help with their writing, later on.

⭐️ 3. It's fun, and helps the time pass more quickly when you're out and about, or can be a special snuggling up time at home. Encourage your child to join in, maybe making up a story together - there's no right or wrong way of doing it!

You can find out more in the Peep topic 'Storytelling'. Does your child like hearing or telling stories?

Slade Nursery has a wonderful outdoor environment which encourages physical development when they go over, under, round and through different obstacles. This supports their use of positional language, which they need for the literacy and mathematics development.
