We made a "Splash" across the pages of Activate Learning this week.

We've only gone and gotten project extensions for two of our Employability projects πŸ‘€πŸ‘Œ

JETS has been extended for an additional year, until April 2023 and Kickstart has been extended for an additional 3-months until March 2022.

It's great to receive some recognition for the truly outstanding work that has been delivered to date. This includes moving 333 people into work on the JETS project and enabling the majority of the young people on Kickstart to secure full-time employment!

Here's to the future success of the extensions πŸŽŠπŸŽ‰

The sun β˜€οΈ came out for the end of our Summer Programme, which we celebrated with a BBQ at our Garden Project, New Routes.

It was a brilliant opportunity to come together and recognise the achievements of some of our amazing young people as they take their next steps πŸ‘Œ.

The food was as good as it looks, and the BBQ created by some of our Adults through our project was brilliant at the helm of Master Chef Vic McFarlane!

We left feeling very full of delicious food and admiration for our incredible team πŸ™.

Look at this fabulous artwork πŸ‘€

This was created by one of our Removing Barriers, Rebuilding Lives (RBRL) Project participants, Kay, during her placement at Restore.

When Kay joined us, she was struggling with anxiety, depression, and panic attacks and was really uncertain about the future.

Kay began working with one of our Project Coaches, Val, who initially helped source and book Kay onto a range of free courses through both Activate Learning Projects and Restore.

Since joining RBRL, Kay has completed a number of Courses including a basic Computer Course and Multiple Mental Health and Well-Being Courses. Val also helped Kay to arrange and attend voluntary work in a Charity Shop and in the garden of a Children’s Charity Centre.

This experience subsequently led to Kay securing voluntary work at one of the local schools, which she is still doing to date.

When asked about her experience of RBRL, Kay had this to say;

β€œNow I know I would like to work with Children, Val contacted Primary Schools close to my house and helped me fill out the paperwork needed for me to volunteer there. I have been volunteering at the school for a few weeks now and I think it's going well. I still have bad days and need to continue to work on my Mental Health, but I am so much better than I was thanks to Val and this project. I plan to carry on volunteering at the school doing any free courses or training they offer. I will also continue to do courses and workshops with Oxfordshire Mind, Recovery College and Restore".

This project is funded by the European Social Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund.

Meet Tiegan πŸ‘‹

Tiegan joined the project in February 2021 and attends their New Routes Garden once a week. At the Garden Project, Teigan has received support to explore her next steps for September. Teigan is very motivated and practical and is the first person to start a task and finish it to a high standard.

Having struggled in a School environment Tiegan felt that College was not the right option for her and wanted to find a more hands on course to gain qualifications and resit her Maths and English GCSEs.

Working with Key Worker, Vic, Tiegan was supported to attend an initial meeting with ACE Training & Consultancy Ltd and to complete an application for their Level 1 Pre-Apprenticeship in Carpentry. Tiegan was invited to one of their trial days on 8th May 2020, which she loved, and she’s now signed up for ACE Training's Summer Programme, which will help her to transition into a full-time course with them in September πŸ‘Œ.

As well as supporting Tiegan with her next step planning, Vic and have ensured that she has been supported to explore her mental health and wellbeing by providing an opportunity to attend group workshops via the Mental Wealth Academy πŸ‘.
