Overview of the project:
Young adult literature is a literary juggernaut whose reach extends far past its adolescent readers, deep into popular culture, into classrooms both secondary and university, and into rigorous scholarly work. The Oxford Handbook of Young Adult Literature will provide the first single volume collection dedicated to a comprehensive examination of young adult literature. Including the work of over 45 top-shelf scholars in the field, the Handbook will contain 43 critical essays of about 8,000 words each and will be organized into four major sections: Texts and Genres (11 essays examining major sub genres and movements in the field); Forms and Focus (11 essays interrogating more narrow issues and topics); Multicultural, Global, and Marginalized Communities (11 essays critiquing texts from and about traditionally underrepresented groups both in terms of identity and geographical location); and Beyond Texts (10 essays delving into the various ways that young adult literature lives beyond the page).

Thanks for all of the congratulatory posts and messages! Many have asked me for more information about the handbook...right now we can tell you that The Handbook will feature 44 chapters written by over 50 scholars from around the globe. At the moment, all of our chapters are spoken for and we are in the middle of working with our editor at OUP to contract individual authors. Once that stage is complete, we will be releasing our table of contents and authors here. We wil also be sharing more detailed information about the chapters and the authors as we move along the process.
