Swing Dance Summertown is a dance society dedicated to teaching The Lindy Hop and running events which celebrate music and dance of the the Golden Age of Jazz through the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.

If you would like more dancing in your week and can get to Summertown in Oxford tonight (Wednesday 30th September 2026) we continue with Week-4 of our term of Swing Dance Summertown Lindy Hop & Charleston Dance Classes.

Head to

The Cherwell School South Site, Marston Ferry Road Oxford, OX2 6UX.

We start at 7:30pm with the Beginner's class. It will be followed by a practice session and then the Intermediate class at around 8:45pm and we finish the evening with Social Dancing until 10:20pm.
The cost is £6 for Members and £10 for Non-Members for a whole night of dancing.

Our New Term of Swing Dance classes is gearing up with lots happening.
Swing Dance Summertown Lindy Hop Classes continue tonight with Week-3 of our Autumn/Winter Term of Classes (Wednesday 23rd September 2026).
Join us at 7:30pm at
The Cherwell School South Site, Marston Ferry Road, Oxford, OX2 6UX.
We start with the Beginner's Class after which we will have a Practice Session before moving onto the Intermediate Class, and then we will finish with Social Dancing until around 10:20pm.
A night of dancing costs just £6 for members & £10 for Non-Members with a special offer for anyone joining us for the first time.

Last night we were at The Headington Dance Studio as part of our partnership with Oxford University Dancesport (OUDC) to hold the first of our taster classes for the new intake of Students.
Rob & Anna took a taster class for a packed studio and then did a demonstration dance.

This wall all culminate in a few weeks time when Nikki Santilli returns to Oxford to lead a brand new Term of the Friday Night Swing Time Classes.

The partnership with OUDC enables us to bring you a second night of Swing Dance Classes in the centre of Oxford and is perfect for those who work in the City centre and want to dance on a Friday night.

More details will be coming soon, but we start Friday Night Swing Time on 16th October 2026

It was a special night at The Speakeasy last night. First of all it was a pleasure and a privilege to welcome back The Cutting Edge Big Band. They looked and sounded absolutely spectacular on the Speakeasy Stage. Everyone played their herarts out much to the delight of the dancers.

On our dance floor we had a really diverse and eclectic group of dancers with Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, Collegiate S**g, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Jive, Tango, Blues & Rumba all appearing throughout the night.

It is wonderful to see different dance styles all together for the same track, and absolutely captures the essence of the Speakeasy.

This is something we have worked hard to cultivate and provide a dance night which is welcoming to all dancers. Anyone who wants to dance is welcome on our dance floor.

Our music, whilst firmly rooted in Jazz Swing, perovides tempos that enable everyone to explore different dance styles from the slow and languid right up to the fast and furious with everything in between.

Ballroom dancers glided
Tango Dancers Boleo-d
Not too sure what to say about Collegiate S**g dancers but they definitely had fun on the dance floor!

This was really a night where the Speakeasy achieved its final form, as a place for all dancers to enjoy the music together.

Coming up next month we have another huge highlight because The Big 'R' are heading to Oxford from Bristol.

They will be led out of the Setting Sun towards the Speakeasy by their 'ferocious' drummer and band leader Richie Paradise

We love hosting these guys and cannot wait to welcome them back.

On Saturday 17th October 2026 from 8-11pm, The Speakeasy is definitely the place to be.

Our newsletter went out this morning to all our members and subscribers and was packed with lot's of dance news because Swing Dance Summertown returns tonight for week 2 of our structured Lindy Hop & Charleston Dance course.

Join Anna & Rob for another great set of classes including our Beginner's which starts at the slightly later time this evening of 7:40pm.

Every year at this time of year there is a school event that takes place early in the evening and goes on until about 7:00pm. This Wednesday (16th September 2026) is that evening.

When it is finished their team need to clear everything away which means we more than likely wont be ready to start on Wednesday 16th September at 7:30pm.

Their best estimate is that we can get in for around 7:40pm but we may not start until a bit after that. In the great scheme of things this is only 5 - 10 minutes and we can juggle the timings to make sure everyone gets their class time in.

If anyone does arrive early, please stay out of sight in the cafeteria (where the tea and coffee is) until the presentation finishes. Most importantly we should not interrupt or disturb the presentation. It is a really important night for the school and we want to be as supportive as possible.

You can access the cafeteria along the corridor which goes round to the right and around the hall, instead of going into the hall as normal.

Many hands will make light work. If anyone is able to get there early and lend a hand getting things cleared away that would be appreciated. It means we can start as soon as possible.

Next week we will be back to normal timing so don't forget to come along at normal time next week.

Secondly if everyone who would normally come at 7:30pm please delay your arrival by a few minutes to give everyone a chance to get the chairs put away and then for us to get set up.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our first class of the brand new term on Wednesday night. It was wonderful in the BEginner's Class to see all the new dancers taking their first steps on their Swing Dance Journey.
We run classes every week until the Festive season starts, and we hope you will join us for as much of it as possible.
We also welcomed back dancers we haven't seen a while (you know who you are 😀) and that really did make our night as you have been much missed.
The dancing continues this weekend on Sunday 13th September from 3pm - 6pm .
