Our first event was a huge success! We hosted Professor Jonathan Herring, who spoke to us around the topic of mental capacity, and where the emphasis in this discussion should actually lie. Thanks all for coming - stay tuned for what we’re preparing for you next term!

Next up is Matt, the final member making up the iconic trio that is our events team!

Matt is particularly interested in the ethics of resource allocation, and how that applies not only in public health emergencies, but also in the regular provision of care in an overstretched NHS.

Helen is another member of our amazing events team, bringing hard-hitting questions and lots of laughter in equal measure to our bioethics discussions.

Helen is particularly interested in how we conceptualise the foetus and its moral rights, in relation to female autonomy regarding termination of pregnancy.

Jamie is 1/3 of the team who brought you our fantastic event yesterday, although you’d be forgiven for not recognising him now that he’s no longer bleach blonde…

Jamie is interested in the ethics of capacity and as a future doctor, how this functions in everyday provision of healthcare.

Tom is our other secretary, in charge of the admin and organisation of the society, and is a jack of a sports and languages.

Tom is especially interested in the ethics of pre-natal genetic testing, and how this information impacts both the patients and doctors who have to grapple with how this affects those involved.

Next up is Eve, our representative of Welsh bioethics, and one of the driving forces behind the creation of the society.

Eve is interested in how the law around capacity interacts with ethics, and how this plays out in clinical practice.
