There is a great opportunity to learn about Epee Refereeing ln the local area and if you want, gain a Level 2 Refereeing qualification.

There is the Theory Course, online taking place on Tuesday 20th October, followed by Level 2 Practical assessments at the Elite Epee 'Big Weekend' at Oundle School on the weekend of 31st October/1st November, where there are 8 practical assessment spots available each day.

There is no lower age limit for the online theory course, so it is great for younger fencers and even their parents to get to know a bit more about refereeing.

Those attending the practical assessments much be 14 or over on the day of the assessment.

Eric in team action today at the Veteran World Championship.

As 3rd seeds they had a bye through the l32, then a solid win against Austria, USA next.

There are a couple of events on this weekend, as well as Eric at the Worlds.

At the RAF Open, after winning a combined 5 of 8 fights in the Women’s poules, Olga was 5th of 15, but unfortunately could not win in the last 16 to finish 9th.

In the Mens, Paul G had a couple of far from friendly poules, winning 1 of 10 bouts, before losing out to Zac Wheeler in the last 64 to finish 34th.
Gaz won 7 of 10 fights in the poules to go into the de as an impressive 9th seed, but lost out in the last 32 to finish 17th.
Steve D won 5 of 10 poule fights to go into the DEs mid-field, but 15-13, 15-11, 15-10 and 15-13 wins took him to the final, where he lost out to take silver against Arthur Bennet who was the event’s 2nd seed at the start of the day.

At the Cadet BRC ‘A’ event in LondonFrankie had a great poule, considering she has so many years left in the age-group, winning 3 of 6 fights, with Layla winning 2 in a tricky poule. Sod’s Law had them meeting in the last 64, which Layla won to make the last 32.

Layla drew 5th seed, Eliana Y-P, in the last 32, who she narrowly lost to at the British Cadet champs, and again lost in a tight 15-13 match to drop into the repacharge where she lost 15-11 to Leon Paul’s Carman C-R.

Frankie finished 38th, with Layla 31st.

In addition Frankie reached the 1/4 finals in the Under 14 BRC ‘C’ event.

Steve coming through after a 3 up, 2 down poule to upset the top seeds, beating the 5th, 4th,1st and 3rd seeds after the poules, to win the hard way.

OPS Epee club will be running a 6 week beginner course at Oundle School Sports centre after 1/2 term with sessions starting at 7pm each week.

Start date Thursday 5th November.

The course is for those aged 8 (year 5) and above (including adults), with attendees split into suitable age-groupings as needed. Younger fencers can be considered, however Epees will be used which can be a bit heavy for younger children.

All kit will be supplied for the course, so those attending just need to come wearing track suit bottoms (full length), t-shirt and clean trainers.

Those attending have the option to switch to our Monday session in Peterborough after completion of the course if that is more convenient for them.
