Zetsurin Karate Welcome to Zetsurin! The safe and friendly place for adults and children to learn traditional karate in the Otley area. For self-defence, fitness and fun!

Karate means “empty hand” and its origins can be traced back to China, though the island of Okinawa is often regarded as its birthplace. As a sport karate can help to develop strength, fitness , flexibility and spirit whilst at the same time increasing confidence and an awareness of self-defence. Th

e style of karate practiced by our club is Shukokai, which means “the way for all”, and was introduced to England in 1968 by Japanese Senseis Tani and Kimura. Though sadly, both Senseis are now no longer with us, their legacy remains as strong as ever, with Shukokai continuing to be well recognised and regarded. As a new member, you become part of the Zetsurin family and as such will be supported by your Senseis and fellow students as you embark on your karate journey. We look forward to travelling with you!

Sensei Lewis has been busy filming syllabus content for you to view on the club’s YouTube channel.
This will help with your practice outside the dojo classes.
Please use the videos to help as often as you can in order to continually improve.
Parents will find this useful in assisting younger children to progress.

Tonight at the dojo we bid Nika a fond farewell as she leaves tomorrow to travel back home to Ukraine.
We have been blessed with her presence at the dojo over the years, and delighted in sharing her karate journey from white belt right through to 3rd Kyu Brown Belt.
Safe travels home Nika - we will all miss you so very much!

After at least 13 years of trying, I finally have a place in the London Marathon for next April,(the Sunday race.)
News received with great excitement plus a rather large dose of trepidation 🫣
Over the next few months I will be organising lots of fun activities to help with raising the £2500 for the wonderful NSPCC.
I hope many of you will be able to join the fun and raise money for this amazing cause as well.
