St Michael's Prep School

St Michael's Prep School St Michael's Prep School, Otford, Kent. A successful co-educational school for 2-13 year olds.

St Michael's school is a non-selective coeducational school promoting a rich, varied, broad and balanced education within a Christian context. We challenge and stimulate pupils to achieve their best and strive for excellence in all that they do; fostering in them a sense of wonder, and joy in learning, so that they take real pride in their accomplishments. Children are helped to understand themsel

ves as individuals, their feelings and emotions, how they can affect others and to show tolerance and respect for the diversity of the world in which we live. Culturally the school provides a wide sporting, musical, artistic and dramatic programme to which all pupils are equally entitled and in which all children are encouraged to participate. We recognise that every child is an individual and aim to promote their happiness, self confidence and well-being as members of a caring community. Children are given opportunities to make a difference to their school and to the wider world. The school motto; perseverance, wisdom, gratitude encapsulates the cornerstones of this education. Through perseverance children learn to win and lose gracefully, overcome difficulties and gain resilience. As their knowledge grows, the school teaches children to have the wisdom to use this knowledge well and to be grateful for all the blessings they receive in life and in their education. From good fortune springs a responsibility to care for others and in this caring, through charitable work the Christian commitment to love one another is translated into action. The school is supported by a governing body that represents a wide range of expertise including ex-parents, ex-pupils and representatives from business and education.

A love of music lasts a lifetime and at St Michael's, that journey begins from the very start 🎶🌈🥁🪇

From Nursery, Pre-Prep pupils enjoy weekly lessons with our specialist Music Teacher, Mrs Crane, exploring a wide range of instruments and discovering how music can be used to tell stories. As they progress through to Year 2, children develop their skills on chime bars, recorders and percussion instruments, while learning to read notation and create their own rhythms.

In Prep, Years 3 to 8 continue their musical development in dedicated music classrooms equipped with keyboards and Mac computers. Through engaging practical activities, pupils are encouraged to compose, improvise, perform and listen with growing confidence and creativity.

Above all, we nurture musical excellence through enjoyment, inspiring every child to develop a lifelong appreciation of music.

St Michael's athletes become National Champions 🏆✨

We are delighted to share our pupils' outstanding performances at the Kent Prep Schools' Athletics Championships and the National Prep Schools' Athletics Championships.

During the Kent Championships at Julie Rose Stadium, Ashford, on Friday 12th June, pupils from Years 5 to 8 competed with great determination and team spirit. St Michael's Grace P became Kent Champion in the U13 Long Jump and finished 2nd in the U13 200m, while Hugo M claimed 2nd place in the U13 1500m with a personal best performance. Zach R-B secured 2nd place in the U12 600m and Nzu O finished 2nd in the U12 Long Jump, despite competing above her age group.

These impressive results saw all four athletes qualify for the National Championships where they competed against the best young athletes from across the country.

The highlight of the national event, taking place on Wednesday 1st July at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, came from Grace P, who produced a superb personal best of 4.78m to win the U13 Long Jump National Title, becoming the second St Michael’s pupil in history to be crowned a National Athletics Champion. She also recorded a personal best in the U13 200m.

Hugo M continued his excellent season with a personal best of 4:59 in the U13 1500m, while Zach R-B delivered another outstanding performance to finish 9th in the country in the U12 600m. Year 5 pupil Nzu O gained valuable experience competing against older athletes in the U12 Long Jump and performed admirably on the national stage.

Commenting on the athletes' success, Director of Sport at St Michael's, Steve Brightman said: "The achievements of Grace, Hugo, Zach and Nzu are a testament to their hard work, dedication and resilience in athletics. Throughout both competitions, they represented St Michael’s with tremendous pride, sportsmanship and determination, giving the whole school community much to celebrate."

Congratulations to all of the athletes on a fantastic season and a remarkable set of achievements for St Michael’s Athletics.

Year 2 Prize Giving 🎭🏆✨

At the end of term, Year 2 performed their production of Looking Good, Robin Hood. After weeks of rehearsing, they took to the stage and wow, they did not disappoint! Every single child gave their all, singing their hearts out and delivering their lines beautifully. Their confidence, enthusiasm and teamwork shone through in every scene and the audience was thoroughly entertained from start to finish.

We were incredibly proud of the children’s hard work, dedication and resilience throughout the rehearsal process. The performance was a wonderful celebration of their talents and a fantastic way to end the year.

This was followed by the children’s first real experience of a Prize Giving ceremony. It was so heartwarming to see them celebrate one another’s successes and show genuine delight when their friends received awards. The kindness, encouragement and respect they showed reflected the strong friendships and supportive community they have built during their time in Year 2.

Well done, Year 2 – you were amazing!
