Oswestry School

Oswestry School An independent co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 4-18, founded in 1407. Around one third of our pupils board with us.

Oswestry School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school in Shropshire for boys and girls aged 4-18. For inquiries or further information please call us on
01691 655711 or visit our website. All pupils are encouraged to establish ‘the roots to grow and the wings to fly’. Our aim is to develop to the full the talents of every one of our pupils and to promote their intellectual, mo

ral, spiritual, academic, physical, cultural and social development – qualities they will need in order to confidently and productively take their place in the complex and ever-changing society in which we live. We are a non-selective independent boarding school of about 400 girls and boys from age 4 to 18, with nursery provision available. We see ourselves very much as a family school. Indeed, just like generations of Oswestrians before them, many children and siblings will attend Oswestry School for their complete schooling - a factor which contributes so much to stability and security. Pupils also join us from other schools at different stages of their educational progress. Set in 50 acres of attractive grounds, the School overlooks the old market town of Oswestry and the broad reach of the Shropshire plain. There is easy access to the motorways of the Midlands, yet the hills and lakes of the Welsh borderland are barely a mile away. It is an ideal setting in which young people may grow and develop. Oswestry School offers a complete education for life, helping pupils realise their full potential by:

* Providing a secure setting with individual attention and a mixture of traditional and modern teaching methods; thus the imagination can be kindled and academic potential fulfilled.

* Developing spiritual, intellectual, physical, cultural and social qualities in each individual.

* Creating a community of well-balanced young people who are fully prepared for the challenges and responsibilities of the outside world.

* Promoting an atmosphere of friendship and trust, where consideration is shown and tolerance exercised.

* Instilling a spirit of service, cultivating self-motivation and self-discipline as the basis of leadership at all levels.

A little magic!

We might be sharing these a little late, but Year 5’s magical forest creations from the Easter holidays are far too good not to show off!

As part of their English studies, pupils were challenged to create a model or collage inspired by the enchanting forest setting of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

And they certainly rose to the challenge! From bright, colourful forests to creations that light up, move and even smell, their imaginations really came to life.

A wonderful way to bring Shakespeare’s magical world to life and a brilliant starting point for their English studies.

We think these deserve a little moment in the spotlight!

There are some views you just have to stop and take in!

Over the weekend, hot air balloons from the Oswestry Balloon Carnival drifted across the sky above our school grounds, creating a pretty spectacular backdrop.

A little bit of weekend magic over Oswestry.

Too Far? Think Again!

With extensive bus routes across Shropshire and the Welsh Borders, we welcome pupils from much further afield than you might think. In fact, some of our pupils travel for over an hour each way to be part of life at Oswestry School.

And the journey becomes part of the experience. Friendships are made, stories are shared and the school day starts long before pupils arrive on campus.

We’re closer than you think.

Take a look at what our parents have to say about our school bus service and discover just how easy it could be to get to Oswestry School.

GCSE RESULTS 2026

A brilliant day of celebration at Oswestry School as our pupils achieve their best GCSE results in recent years!

36% of grades were awarded at 9 to 7, up 6% on last year
92% of grades were 9 to 4
Two pupils who joined us for their final GCSE year achieved an incredible nine grade 9s and four grade 8s between them

As a non-selective school, we are incredibly proud to support pupils of all abilities to achieve their individual potential. These results are a fantastic reflection of the hard work, determination and commitment shown by our pupils, alongside the dedication of our teachers.

“Congratulations to pupils and teachers alike for this excellent set of results. Beyond the percentages, it is the individual success stories that are most important, and I am sure that these results will give our pupils a great confidence boost as they embark upon their exciting next chapter.” Headmaster, Peter Middleton.

And now, it’s time for the next adventure. Bring on Sixth Form!

Congratulations to every one of our GCSE pupils. We couldn't be prouder.
