**** PILATES AND ZUMBA COMING SOON ****

Hope everyone is having a good summer! Even as it rains whilst I write this ☔

I have some exciting news - I have taken the leap of leaving my office job and I plan to start running a few more classes in different locations, including Zumba and Stretch and Strength, which will start in September, and Pilates which I will be offering from next year. Class schedule to be confirmed soon! I'll also be available at some times for one to one, pairs or small group training at various times during the week.

As part of this little shake up of mine, I will not be running mamma Fit at Pant on Wednesdays - instead the sessions will be Zumba at 9.30am and Stretch and Strength at 10.45am. I will try to put on some mamma Fit sessions at some point and will keep you posted.

Gorgeous mammas, please, PLEASE don't let body image, size, shape or fitness level be a barrier to moving your body and joining in with whatever activity you fancy. Whether that might be an exercise class, walking or running, dancing, playing a sport or whatever you might enjoy. Fitness and exercise is for everyone and anyone. Whether you're a shredded ironwoman or you're just taking your first steps into fitness, getting moving in a way that feels good will benefit your physical and mental health.

I was chatting to a friend the other day about how there is a stigma around taking part in exercise if you are 'bigger', or even if you are simply not super lean and toned. About how there is sometimes a belief that you won't be capable of doing an activity because you don't fit a certain body criteria.

"I'm not a runner."
"I'm not built for it."
"Someone like me couldn't do that."

This is BU****IT. Sure, our bodies and abilities will vary and we might find ourselves leaning more towards one activity or another, but I promise that anybody in any body can take part and achieve. I feel really strongly about this, so let's dispel some myths:

To join in with a class or a running group, or whatever, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE

❌️ fit
❌️ toned
❌️ slim
❌️ experienced

(Although of course you can be any of these things!)

Fitness is NOT just for the super slim, toned, cover girl types. The women who live in the gym and drink green juice and detox teas. It is for mammas who want to get stronger, improve their health, look after their bones and muscles. Mammas who want to rehabilitate after pregnancy and birth. Mammas who can only fit a little bit into their very busy week. Mammas who want to set a great example to their children. Mammas who want to have a chit chat and get some endorphins flowing. Mammas who want to feel good about themselves. Tired mammas. Mammas who don't say no to a glass of wine or a chocolate bar.

Anyone who wants to uphold ridiculous ideals of body shape can 🖕

No matter where we are at currently, we are all on our own personal journey. Before starting my mum and child classes, I hesitated for a while because I worried whether I 'looked the part'. But, I am a qualified exercise instructor and a mum who knows what it's like to attempt to squat, with a child hanging off your legs, after a dozen night wake ups, two tantrums and 25 requests to "PUT ON YOUR SHOES!". So who better?!

My final point on the matter is this. No matter what your body looks like, how wobbly or toned you may be, how sad your b***s might have ended up after having your offspring swing from them for years, when you go to the beach in your bikini no one will give a s**t and no one will see what you look like anyway because you will be covered in children 😅

"I'd like to come and have a go at the class but I can't commit to coming every week".

No problem!

The class is on a come as you are, when you can basis. There are so many times that life and children get in the way of our best intentions! Children get sick, are tired, other things come up. For this reason I don't ask ladies to commit to any number of sessions or pay in advance. I understand the need to have flexibility in your weekly schedule. There is no pressure and no expectation :)

And breathe!!!

Sunday mornings I go for a run. I consider this a priority in my weekly schedule and I make sure it happens. Sure, sometimes I run at a different time and sometimes life gets in the way and I do have to skip it, but 90% of the time it is non-negotiable. I am going for my run and nothing is going to stop me!

When I got home I thought I'd do a few core exercises before hitting the shower but of course Guto had other plans to climb all over me, whinge to go outside and then cling to me, so that didn't quite go to plan and I wasn't able to get to the shower as soon as I wanted. Which is quite frustrating, but I was able to deal with that frustration better because I'd had a decent pocket of time alone doing what I wanted.

If you haven't got a partner around or anyone to support you to take a break alone, can you find a way to get a little breathing space? (Shock horror, i think a bit of screen time to give yourself a time out is fine!). We don't need to feel guilty for taking a break.

Xx

I was chatting to a lady the other day about back carrying, and I said I'd demonstrate how I do it with Guto. So I decided to make a little video! Guto was so compliant because he loved watching himself on my phone!

I am not a trained sling consultant, just a mamma who likes to have her hands free! Often ladies wear babies/toddlers in carriers during the exercise classes, and I've done this with Guto too. I'm happy to help as much as I can during a class, but if you want detailed advice from a trained person, there are many sling consultants in the UK such as Laura Morgan-Watkins from The Cuddle Collective who could help.

Please do practice over a soft surface until you are confident (you could even use a teddy or doll) and follow the TICKS safety checklist.

Happy carrying :)

Oh the fun we have with a few exercise mats!
