Summer camp yesterday saw us exploring the themes of identity, community and wellbeing. Taking inspiration from spoken word artists, we then split into teams and wrote and performed our own original poems.

In the afternoon, the challenge was to write lyrics without any music, focusing purely on the story being told. The teams then swapped papers and turned each other's lyrics into original songs!

To finish the day, we created, rehearsed and performed a brand-new collaborative story. It started with a storyboarding session, which led to each team member learning lines, supporting one another and bringing the story to life, making it camera-ready for our end-of-week showcase!

Day 1 with our new group, and we soon got stuck into the world of rhythm, discovering just how much music you can make with nothing but your voice, your body and a bit of imagination!

We kicked things off with some energetic rhythm games before having a go at beatboxing, recreating drum patterns inspired by famous songs. We then experimented with looping and layering using recording software, adding harmonies and sound effects to the beatboxing we'd learnt 🎤

The next challenge for the group was to choreograph their own original dance to go along with their track. It was great seeing everyone's ideas being listened to, and how they encouraged each other while they were figuring it all out! After filming a first attempt, they watched it back, made improvements and put together their final version. Part one of Friday's performance is ready!

It was fantastic to see everyone growing in confidence as they learnt how expression, emotion and delivery can completely transform a performance.

In the afternoon, the creativity kept flowing as groups wrote lyrics, and then turned each other's lyrics into original songs!

Summer Camp - Day 2!

Yesterday was all about rhythm and groove, with our musicians further discovering just how much music they can create using nothing but their voices, bodies and imagination.

We played energetic rhythm games and learnt the art of beatboxing by replicating drum patterns from famous songs. We then explored looping and layering using recording software before adding movement to their performances.

The afternoon challenge? Put it all together! The group created an original performance combining beatboxing, loops, rhythm and some great dance moves, filmed a draft, reviewed it together, and then polished it ready for our final performance.

It's amazing to see everyone's confidence and creativity growing every day!

Summer Camp 2026 is officially underway, and what a fantastic first day we've had!

Today was all about finding our voices. From funny name games and vocal warm-ups to experimenting with strange sounds, body percussion and rhythm, it wasn't long before we were making some noise!

The afternoon got even more exciting with improvisation games, a body percussion battle, and the challenge of creating an original performance using nothing but voices, vocal effects and body percussion. To top it all off, we then came up with our own team name and logo before rehearsing and filming the first run-through of our performance.

We can't wait to see what the rest of the week brings. Parents, keep an eye out for more updates as we build towards Friday's showcase! 🎶✨

Week one of the summer holidays... done! ☀️

Has anyone else completely lost track of what day it is? 

This week has been a mixture of workplace choirs, Jenna shovelling what feels like an endless amount of manure around the garden (not quite as glamorous as it sounds! 🌱💪) and lots of behind-the-scenes planning for next week's Creative Voice Lab summer camp.

We can't wait to welcome our young people next week for a week of singing, beatboxing, looping, songwriting, spoken word, creativity and confidence-building. There are going to be lots of smiles, plenty of music and, no doubt, a few unforgettable moments along the way.
