The person behind Fanfare Music and Local Vocals.

Jenna started Fanfare from her living room just over nine years ago, after realising she wanted to build something that made music feel a bit more open, relaxed and welcoming.

A big part of that comes from hearing so many people say things like, “I’m not musical” or “I can’t sing”. Jenna doesn’t really buy that.

For her, music is something everyone should be able to enjoy, whether you’re five, ninety-five, learning piano for the first time or joining a choir just because you fancy giving it a go.

Fanfare is a music school, but it’s also a community. There are private lessons, group sessions, adult classes, choirs and workshops, all with the same aim: helping people feel comfortable enough to try, learn and enjoy making music together.

Jenna also runs Local Vocals, where singing is just as much about bringing people together as it is about getting the notes right. Her favourite way of putting it is: “Connection over perfection.”

And that probably sums up the whole thing quite nicely.

Fanfare is there for the kids having their first lesson, the adults who always wished they’d learnt an instrument, the people who are convinced they “can’t sing” and everyone in between.

For Jenna, the best bit is seeing someone surprise themselves and realise, actually, maybe they can do this after all.

Still on a high from our open day! Drai had a great day showing loads of people how to be a DJ - something he actually teaches in weekly lessons!
