With hot weather forecast, we want to make sure our whole community stays safe and aware of the drowning risks of going into open water. Swimming in ponds, lakes and flooded quarries can be extremely dangerous - between strong underwater currents, cold water shock, debris and discarded waste, toxic algae and sudden changes in water depth, taking a dip just isn't worth the risk. We had a fantastic Post 16 Induction Day!

From the moment students arrived, there was a real buzz around the building. Our Sixth Form Ambassadors did an amazing job welcoming new students, helping them settle in and making sure everyone felt part of the Ossett community from day one.

Throughout the day, students experienced a range of subjects and activities, from Psychology and Biology lessons to a creative Business challenge where students designed festival fashion from bin bags and marketed their creations. We also enjoyed a game of rounders, pizza for lunch and even an ice-cream van visit!

Most importantly, it was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, positivity and teamwork. The day was a brilliant showcase of life at our sixth form and gave students a taste of the opportunities that await them in September.

A huge thank you to all the staff who worked so hard behind the scenes to make the day such a success, as well as our fantastic student ambassadors and helpers who ensured everything ran smoothly.

We can't wait to welcome our new Year 12 students back in September!

Last week our Year 12 Geography students completed a fieldwork visit along the Holderness Coast. They started in Flamborough Head, measuring sediment size and roundness, to see how erosion reduces sediment size. In Hornsea they conducted surveys with the public to identify views about the hard engineering which is used to build up the beach there, and finally in Mappleton, they analysed the effect of transport on sediment all the way down the coast. Students worked hard in groups to collect the data, and enjoyed a good day out in the field.

We had a great time at Leeds Beckett University for the UCAS Discovery Leeds 2026 event!

Students had access to a wide range of stalls offering more information on university, apprenticeship and career pathways, as well as subject sessions and guidance on the UCAS application process. They also had the chance to explore the campus and get a real feel for university life.

Big thanks to Huddersfield Town Foundation for coming in to talk to our Football Academy students about their exciting post‑16 pathways in Sports Coaching and Sport Business & Management.

Delivered in partnership with the University of South Wales, these foundation degrees give students the chance to earn a degree while being linked to a professional football club, gaining real‑world experience in community coaching and football development along the way. ⚽

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Year 13 Stand Down last night. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of this cohort and reflect on many special moments from their journey with us.

What truly shines through in this remarkable group of young people is their resilience, kindness, and community spirit. While it’s bittersweet to reach the end of this chapter, we know there are exciting opportunities ahead. ❤️

Last week, our EPQ students took part in a research check‑in, sharing the progress they’ve made on their independent projects. Their work spans an impressive range of ideas - from exploring how society’s perceptions have shifted across history, to examining gender inequalities in areas such as sport, industry, and healthcare. Some students are investigating ethical questions around public services, while others are analysing developments in education, mental health, and forensic science. We even have projects delving into the complexities of human behaviour and the legacies of ancient civilisations.

It’s been fantastic to see how confidently they are tackling challenging questions, drawing on research, and developing thoughtful arguments. We’re incredibly proud of the curiosity and independence they’re showing as their projects continue to take shape.
