🦁🦒 Reception had a fantastic day at Blackpool Zoo today! 🐘🦜

What an amazing day of exploring, learning and adventure! We were lucky enough to see so many incredible animals, including monkeys, birds, giraffes, penguins, sea lions, parrots, wallabies, and even a beautiful baby elephant.

One of the highlights of the day was watching a magnificent tiger come right up to the viewing window and look directly at the children- it was a truly unforgettable moment! Another firm favourite was the dinosaur exhibit, which the children absolutely loved.

During our workshop, we explored colours and patterns in the animal world, learning how camouflage helps animals to survive. The children enjoyed handling real snakeskin and peacock feathers, and we talked about why it is so important to protect animals by stopping poaching.

Of course, there was also time to burn off some energy in the playground before returning to school!

We are incredibly proud of all of the children. They represented our school brilliantly with their excellent behaviour, enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the day.

A huge thank you to our wonderful parent helpers for giving up their time to support us. We couldn't have done it without you! 🦓💚

☀️ Keeping Cool in Class 1! ☀️

What a fantastic couple of days we've had despite the heat! 🌞

The children have been busy finding lots of ways to stay cool while continuing their learning through play. They enjoyed dipping their feet in our cold water tuff tray, which was a lovely way to cool down and refresh.

The children also worked together to build dens using a variety of materials, creating their own shady spaces to escape the sunshine.

Our budding engineers explored water play using guttering, chairs and other resources to create ramps. They carefully tested, changed and adapted their designs to help the water travel from one end to the other without leaking, showing fantastic problem-solving skills, resilience and teamwork.

Imaginations were in full swing as the children designed and built their own pirate ship using loose parts including crates, tyres and wooden planks. They set sail on exciting adventures, with one little pirate even using a pipe as a telescope to search for treasure on the horizon! 🏴‍☠️🔭

To finish off our fun-filled days, everyone enjoyed a refreshing ice lolly to help keep cool. 🍦💙

It has been a wonderful couple of days of learning, exploring, creating and making the most of the sunshine in Class 1!

☀️ With the warm weather set to continue, for this week:

💧 Please send your child with a water bottle. We will refill bottles throughout the day, so there is no need to bring more than one.

🧢 Please remember a sun hat and apply long-lasting suncream before school each morning.

Thank you for your support in helping us keep everyone safe and comfortable in the sunshine! ☀️

I was so proud of our Year 5 and 6 children today as they took part in a Bird Ringing session in Forest School. We caught: Robins, two Jenny Wrens, a Dunnock, Black Caps and of course, a Kingfisher! The children were thoroughly engaged as they learned about the importance of monitoring birds, the impact of climate change on migration and were able to share their own vast knowledge of birds from our previous work on the Galapagos Islands and the adaptation of animal species.
Real learning outside of the classroom! 🐦🌳💙

What a wonderful time we’ve been having outdoors! 🌿✨

The children in Reception and Nursery have fully embraced our mud kitchen, getting creative with petal soups, mud pies and all sorts of imaginative recipes. Using wooden pallets as tables and tyres as seats, they’ve even been writing menus on whiteboards to share their delicious creations with friends- such fantastic teamwork and role play!

Our new recycled water wall has been a huge hit too. Made from a pallet and reused milk bottles, the children have loved pouring, exploring and experimenting with how water flows. It’s been brilliant to see their curiosity and problem-solving in action.

There’s been lots of active play as well, with the children enjoying the bikes and exploring the water tray using guttering to roll balls along. We’ve also had some lovely quiet moments, like watching ladybirds land gently on little hands 🐞

The children have taken great pride in painting our new planter, where we’ve planted carrots together. We can’t wait to watch them grow! 🥕

And of course… plenty of giggles too, especially with some very funny photos using magnifying glasses to make our mouths look extra big! 😂

A fantastic mix of creativity, exploration, laughter and learning in the great outdoors 🌈
