I was so proud of our Year 5 and 6 children today as they took part in a Bird Ringing session in Forest School. We caught: Robins, two Jenny Wrens, a Dunnock, Black Caps and of course, a Kingfisher! The children were thoroughly engaged as they learned about the importance of monitoring birds, the impact of climate change on migration and were able to share their own vast knowledge of birds from our previous work on the Galapagos Islands and the adaptation of animal species.
Real learning outside of the classroom! 🐦🌳💙

St John's had a special visitor to school this week who showed the children how the police help to keep us safe.
We had such a wonderful time and were even able to take a ride in their special van with the 'blues and twos'. 🚔🚓

What a wonderful time we’ve been having outdoors! 🌿✨
The children in Reception and Nursery have fully embraced our mud kitchen, getting creative with petal soups, mud pies and all sorts of imaginative recipes. Using wooden pallets as tables and tyres as seats, they’ve even been writing menus on whiteboards to share their delicious creations with friends- such fantastic teamwork and role play!
Our new recycled water wall has been a huge hit too. Made from a pallet and reused milk bottles, the children have loved pouring, exploring and experimenting with how water flows. It’s been brilliant to see their curiosity and problem-solving in action.
There’s been lots of active play as well, with the children enjoying the bikes and exploring the water tray using guttering to roll balls along. We’ve also had some lovely quiet moments, like watching ladybirds land gently on little hands 🐞
The children have taken great pride in painting our new planter, where we’ve planted carrots together. We can’t wait to watch them grow! 🥕
And of course… plenty of giggles too, especially with some very funny photos using magnifying glasses to make our mouths look extra big! 😂
A fantastic mix of creativity, exploration, laughter and learning in the great outdoors 🌈

Wow what a fantastic effort everyone put into their Easter bonnets – they all looked absolutely brilliant! 🐣🌸
The children gave us some wonderful singing and confidently walked along the stage showing off their creations, complete with lots of funny dance moves!
It was such a lovely afternoon and we are so proud of them all. Thank you to everyone for your creativity and support in making it such a special event.

We are delighted to announce that St John’s has been successfully awarded a £150,000 School-Based Nursery Capital Grant from the Department for Education!
There were 637 applicants from across England, of these, there were 12 applications from Lancashire and we are just one of 5 schools selected to receive the funding.
We are so happy and excited about this next phase in the journey of St John’s Catholic Primary and our commitment to growing our school community so that all children can benefit from the high quality learning, nurture and support that we offer.
This funding is part of a national initiative to create high-quality early years spaces. We will be using this investment to expand our current nursery to provide even more places for our local community. This means: more modern spaces, improved outdoor facilities, more resources, and more places for your children to start their learning journey at St John’s Catholic Primary.
We are committed to giving our youngest pupils the best possible start.
If you have a child due to start Nursery next year, please contact the office to register your interest.
