Today, with the help and guidance of the wonderful Annie .ehu and Edge Hill Students' Union, our Secretary, Ellie, ran a stall in the Hub for DASMA Day, inviting people to put down their feelings on paper and take care of themselves both physically and mentally this weekend. All submissions were anonymous, though everyone was invited to chat in the cozy corner if they wanted to!
What Ellie found in these submissions was heartbreaking, and unfortunately rings true for so many people that are too afraid to speak up. Running the society, all the committee members have personal experience with abuse/assault, and these submissions have been very emotional to go to, especially to relate to.
To round out DASMA Day, we’d like to share some hotlines and services you can access if you find DASMA affects you personally, or you need advice to help a friend.

Mid-Freshers’ Week, we want to spread awareness around safety and spiking when on nights out. It is important to look after yourself and your friends when you go out together, and remember to always know exactly what you are drinking! Being safe and aware doesn’t have to kill the mood; your safety comes above all 🦋

Freshers’ Fair was a success! Arlo, our president, and Ellie, our secretary, had so much fun meeting people and talking about how important it is to spread awareness of abuse/assault and, even more importantly, provide survivors with a safe place. To everybody that registered, or even just came and spoke to us, you took a huge step today, and we are so proud 🦋

Following the Summer Update leaflet posted out to all students, we at the Survivors’ Society want to emphasise how important it is to look after your mental health during the academic year (and in between!). The university has readily accessible mental health services, and nobody should feel ashamed or hesitant to use them. The first step to overcoming what you’re going through is self care 🦋
