In this, the 250th anniversary year of American independence, join us for a fascinating new talk, led by Sebastian Graham from the world-renowned Mellon Centre Migration Studies explores the hopes, hardships, opportunities and everyday experiences captured in their own words. These letters offer a timely and personal connection between Tyrone and the story of emigration to America.

As part of and in partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council we are delivering a talk at the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh on Thursday 10th September at 7pm on Letters Across the Atlantic: Tyrone’s Emigrant Stories.

We are delving into the Irish Emigrant Database and other resources to discover the stories hidden within these remarkable pieces of family history and explore how letters bridged the distance between Tyrone and America.

Did you miss our 25th Ulster American Heritage Symposium?

Good news! The roadworks on the main road to the Ulster American Folk Park this week will be finished by Saturday 29th August, and therefore, there should be no delays or issues accessing the Folk Park for the Live from the Folk Park concert.

Any visit to Lisburn offers a chance to visit the Huguenot graves at the Lisburn Cathedral graveyard. Louis Crommelin is buried here and he is notable for giving the linen industry a kickstart by bringing over new ideas of production and having influential links to champion it. There are also other names in the graveyard such as De La Cherois and Guillot of Huguenot origin. An important aspect of local heritage and migration.

Wonderful Heritage Week comes to a close and we attended two events one looking at the The Diaspora of Errigal Shanco and Errigal Truagh at St Maudains Church, Co. Monaghan and also the Rockwell Kent exhibition at Donegal County Museum which is on display until early September.
