It was great to welcome back Andrew Coyne (class 2006) who delivered this week's John Budding Guest Lecture to our sixth form pupils.

Andrew was head boy at Hulme Grammar School, is now a school governor, sends his children to Hulme and is also a member of the Hulme Alumni Law Group.

Andrew said: "Cut me in half and it would say Hulme right through the middle - like a stick of rock"

Andrew now works in Digital Transformation at leading law firm Clyde & Co and delivered a brilliant talk with some excellent advice about resilience, preparing for challenges and being ready for what could come next.

A big thank you to Andrew for giving his time and inspiring our students...as well as everything else he does for school! 🌟

What a fantastic turnout in Soho last night for our Old Hulmeians London drinks reception at The White Horse.

It was brilliant to see seven decades of Hulme Grammar School represented in the room, with alumni spanning from the 1960s right up to our 2026 leavers.
A big thank you to Sophie Ardern (Class of 1995) for helping us secure the venue for the evening.

It was a great night of catching up and swapping stories, covering everything from the school’s very first computers and old teacher nicknames to CCF memories, sporting achievements, and shared Oldham roots.

Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a memorable evening. We hope to see you at the next one!

We were so happy to welcome Mark Dutton (class of 1986) back to school recently.

Mark made an especially long trip from his home in Perth, Australia and we dived into the archives looking through old year books, school reports and photos.

One game we learnt about was "Ledgey" does anyone remember playing that at break time against the wall with a tennis ball?

It was great to welcome back Jamie Grimshaw (class 2004) who delivered this year's first John Budding Guest Lecture.

Jamie shared an inspiring story with our Sixth Form pupils which included how he left school wanting to fly aeroplanes ✈️ changed direction, got himself a job in medical sales (which he said he wasn't qualified for), clearly did well and is now CEO of Moorfield Nanotechnology - with some great adventures in between. 🏂

Thanks again for sharing your insights, Jamie, and giving our pupils the confidence to believe in themselves backed by the education they get at Hulme Grammar School

A Special GCSE Results Day with a Familiar Face! 🎓✨

Results day at Hulme is always filled with celebration, but today brought a wonderful dose of nostalgia!

Among the celebration, smiling faces, and impressive grades, we were delighted to welcome back our very own Deb Maders (class 1987).

Having recently retired as our Head of Chemistry, Deb made a point of returning to school this morning to personally congratulate her final cohort of students on their fantastic achievements.

Deb was reflecting on her journey with us today, she first walked through the doors as a pupil back in 1980, and has been a cornerstone of the Hulme community ever since.

Seeing her back at school celebrating with her pupils was a great reminder of what makes this place so special: the teachers who go above and beyond for their students year after year.

Congratulations to all our GCSE pupils on another set of fantastic results, and a huge thank you to Deb for stopping by to share in their success! 💙💛

🎓 Celebrating the Class of 2026 & Welcoming Our Newest Alumni! 🎓

Huge congratulations to the Class of 2026 on receiving their A-Level results today! We are immensely proud of all their hard work, resilience, and fantastic achievements.

Today marks the end of one brilliant chapter and the exciting start of another, as we officially welcome them into the global Hulme Grammar School alumni community! 🌟

This success, however, is a team effort and we want to extend a massive thank you to all of you, our incredible alumni network.

Your continued support plays a vital role in shaping the success of current pupils.

Whether you’ve offered mentoring, hosted work placements, donated to bursaries and scholarships, delivered guest talks, attended careers events, or simply served as an inspiration, you’ve helped make these results possible. Thank you for giving back and keeping the Hulme spirit alive. 💙

Blast from the past! 📸✨

We had the best time welcoming back Vicky Hayhurst, Clare Grainger, and Emma Richards (née Lees) from the Class of 1998 today!

Revisiting old classrooms brought back so many iconic moments, from tracking down old experiment marks on the science lab ceiling and playing 90s hits on the piano, to reminiscing about the school radio station, appearing on the National Lottery TV show, and sending Valentine's cards to Take That's Mark Owen! 💌📺🎹

We missed Jane Pugh today (see you next time, Jane), but loved catching up on old times. As for the rest of the stories we unearthed in the archives... those strictly stay on tour...(wow!) 🤫 😮
