A Special GCSE Results Day with a Familiar Face! 🎓✨

​Results day at Hulme is always filled with celebration, but today brought a wonderful dose of nostalgia!

​Among the celebration, smiling faces, and impressive grades, we were delighted to welcome back our very own Deb Maders (class 1987).

Having recently retired as our Head of Chemistry, Deb made a point of returning to school this morning to personally congratulate her final cohort of students on their fantastic achievements.

​Deb was reflecting on her journey with us today, she first walked through the doors as a pupil back in 1980, and has been a cornerstone of the Hulme community ever since.

Seeing her back at school celebrating with her pupils was a great reminder of what makes this place so special: the teachers who go above and beyond for their students year after year.

​Congratulations to all our GCSE pupils on another set of fantastic results, and a huge thank you to Deb for stopping by to share in their success! 💙💛

​Huge congratulations to the Class of 2026 on receiving their A-Level results today! We are immensely proud of all their hard work, resilience, and fantastic achievements.

​Today marks the end of one brilliant chapter and the exciting start of another, as we officially welcome them into the global Hulme Grammar School alumni community! 🌟

​This success, however, is a team effort and we want to extend a massive thank you to all of you, our incredible alumni network.

​Your continued support plays a vital role in shaping the success of current pupils.

Whether you’ve offered mentoring, hosted work placements, donated to bursaries and scholarships, delivered guest talks, attended careers events, or simply served as an inspiration, you’ve helped make these results possible. Thank you for giving back and keeping the Hulme spirit alive. 💙

Blast from the past! 📸✨

​We had the best time welcoming back Vicky Hayhurst, Clare Grainger, and Emma Richards (née Lees) from the Class of 1998 today!

​Revisiting old classrooms brought back so many iconic moments, from tracking down old experiment marks on the science lab ceiling and playing 90s hits on the piano, to reminiscing about the school radio station, appearing on the National Lottery TV show, and sending Valentine's cards to Take That's Mark Owen! 💌📺🎹

​We missed Jane Pugh today (see you next time, Jane), but loved catching up on old times. As for the rest of the stories we unearthed in the archives... those strictly stay on tour...(wow!) 🤫 😮

This Sunday 26th July, as the Oldham Branch of the Royal British Legion gathers for a special service of remembrance for World War I, the entire Hulme Grammar School community joins them in spirit to honour those who served, fought, and gave their lives.

It was on 28th July 1914 that the First World War began. Looking back at our own archives, the scale of sacrifice and dedication from our Hulme family between 1914 and 1918 is truly remarkable:

- 819 Old Boys were eligible to serve, with confirmed records for 401 of them.

- 71 Old Boys and 1 staff member tragically lost their lives.

- 32 bravery medals were awarded, including 26 Military Crosses, six French/Belgian Croix de Guerre, two MBEs, and an award from the Serbian government.

- Many other Old Boys supported the home front, vital in engineering and local industry.

- Over 130 Old Girls volunteered serving as VAD nurses, cooks, working in newly opened office roles, and even two qualified surgeons who volunteered on the frontlines in France.

It is hard to imagine the courage required during those years, but the spirit of service remains a core part of who we are today. As proud signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant, we extend our warm thanks and best wishes to Alan Noble and the Oldham Royal British Legion for hosting Sunday's service.

We will remember them.

We are delighted to invite you to a Hulme Grammar School alumni drinks reception at the unique and historic White Horse Pub in Soho, London on Thursday 17th September.

The evening will begin with a drinks reception from 6:00pm with your first drink included in the ticket price of just £10.

This will be a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with fellow alumni and to meet our Principal, Kirsten Pankhurst, as she shares an update and her vision for Hulme as we enter a new era for education and exciting phase for the school.

Tickets are £10 and places are limited. The evening includes a welcome drink on arrival and access to the VIP room.

Brilliant to see the Hulme community out in force at Latics today! 👋⚽🌌

​We had a fantastic afternoon at the The University of Manchester Great Science Share for Schools at Oldham Athletic.

More than 200 primary school children from across the borough were showing off their science experiments, and the Hulme Grammar School connection was everywhere you looked.

​From Latics CEO Darren Royle ('91) hosting everyone at Boundary Park, to Professor Brian Cox ('86) handing out the certificates, our former pupils were directly inspiring the next generation of Oldham students.

​A massive highlight was our pupils getting to present their circuit projects to local legend Frank Rothwell and Ian Taylor ('88) did a brilliant job compering the afternoon business session.

​It was also great to catch up with local business leaders Jonathan Eglin ('90) and Peter Savic ('77) in the audience.

There is a real, shared determination to get hands-on science into every primary school in the borough.

​Today marked a truly special milestone at Hulme as we held our Prize Giving ceremonies for Year 7 through to Year 13.

It was an exceptionally proud, and emotional, day as we officially said goodbye to our Year 13 pupils, celebrating their incredible academic achievements and welcoming them into our global alumni network as the Class of 2026!

​We were absolutely privileged to welcome back the brilliant Heather Lacey-Tarpey (Class of 2012), Business Development Manager at TLT LLP and award-winning Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging activist, as our guest speaker.

In a wonderful full-circle moment, Heather was joined by her mum, Debbie Lacey, a very familiar face to our departing Year 13s, who fondly remember her teaching them back in the Prep School! 🏫💛💙

​🏆 ​The day was packed with extraordinary highlights, including:

- ​The H.B. Shaw Award for Academic Achievement! Massive congratulations to Year 13’s Maruf, who was awarded our oldest dated trophy going back to 1906 📜✨

- ​Philanphropic Support: An incredible 56 donors from our alumni, friends, and corporate partners stepped forward this year to name awards. A huge thank you for your immense support in backing the next generation.

​Congratulations to all of today’s prize winners, and a massive good luck to our departing Year 13s.

​A huge thank you to writer and producer Rima Sen (Class of 2000) for returning to Hulme Grammar School as our guest speaker at last night's Arts Awards!

Rima gave a truly inspirational speech to our pupils about overcoming fear and embracing their creative voices.

The evening also marked a wonderful mini-reunion, as Rima caught up with her former classmate and our current Director of Drama, Steph Eckhardt! Hulmegsdrama

​Last night was an incredible celebration of the immense talent across Art, Design Technology, Music, and Drama. Massive congratulations to all of our award winners - your creativity and hard work make the entire school incredibly proud. 📸👇

​Huge thanks to netball legend Kerry Almond (Class of 2002) for returning as our guest speaker at tonight's Hulme Grammar School Sports Awards!

It was incredibly fitting that our U13 Netball Squad took home Team of the Year after being crowned World Netball School Games Champions over the weekend.

What a moment to see an alumni great celebrate our new world champions! 🌍👑
