This afternoon, Mrs Cousins and Mr Charnock took a group of Key Stage 2 children to Royton & Crompton Academy to watch a special performance by the Band of the Grenadier Guards!
The Band of the Grenadier Guards is one of the most famous military bands in the world, providing iconic music for British royal ceremonies, national events, and public parades like the Changing of the Guard.

The children were treated to a mixture of classical and modern pieces and this proved to be a fantastic experience for all.

Thursday 24th September was National Arts in Care Home Day, where care settings across the UK come together to celebrate arts and creativity; organising activities, performances and projects as part of their National Day celebrations.
To celebrate this within out local community, a group of our Year 5 children visited the residents at Royley House for some arts and crafts activities. We created a tree which is now on display at Royley House which celebrates different generations coming together with shared interests. We all had a lovely time.

Today, our newly elected school council met for the first time. We talked about the importance of a school council and the different ways that the school council can help and contribute towards our school.
We also discussed the key values of our school council such as democracy, commitment and responsibility.

Moving forward, our school council will listen to the voices of children across our school, meet regularly and then propose fresh ideas for postive changes that we can implement to make our school the best it can be.

This week our new School Health Champions had their first meeting. Throughout the year, Brendan, Florence, Abel and Franklyn are going to attend workshops and support staff and children at Royton Hall with their physical and mental wellbeing.

Years 3 & 4 have been having so much fun with their learning over the past few weeks! We have been enjoying lots of practical Maths lessons with games, keeping fit with Kung fu punctuation in English, brain break workouts and daily mile sessions as part of National Fitness Day.

As well as as this, we have been diving in to our Stone Age topic learning by exploring artefacts, creating freeze frames from the different Stone Age eras and even enjoying some Stone Age cave painting in the playground!

We have also enjoyed starting our Music lessons. Year 3 will be learning how to play a cornet with Mr Leadale, Whilst Year 4 will be composing pieces of music to represent the idea of the ripples in a river.

Our Year 1 and 2 children have settled into Key Stage 1 extremely well as we come to the end of our first full school week. The children have grown in confidence and are now much more familiar with their new routines. Our Year 1 children in particular have enjoyed exploring their new learning environment and provision areas.

Throughout the week, we have been using the book, 'Find your Happy' to explore our emotions and the children have completed lots of fun activities such as creating happiness jars and worry dolls.
To round off the week, the children took part in a live lesson by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler who introduced their new book 'Gruffalo Granny'.

We look forward to seeing our KS1 children continue to enjoy their learning and grow as we continue through the Autumn Term.
