Do we have a treat for you… ⬇️
Our Lead Tutor, Eileen, shares her take on Ethics and the therapeutic relationship in this month's must-read blog. She talks about:
- Understanding the .official Ethical framework
- Ethics in relationship
- The challenge of ethical practice
- What ethical practice requires
- Ethics as foundation
- Framework review
🌱 Whether you're looking to study counselling, or already on your training path... this is more than a blog, it's an opportunity for you to get a feel for the passion and expertise our students benefit from, every week.
You will get a feel for the immersive learning style we offer at the Academy, as Eileen invites you to reflect on your own practice;
👉🏼 Which of the six core principles feels most natural to you? Which feels most challenging?
👉🏼Can you recall a moment when ethical principles seemed to conflict? How did you navigate that?
👉🏼 What helps you maintain your ethical awareness when you're tired, stressed, or stretched?
👉🏼 How do you continue to develop your understanding of ethics beyond initial training?
👉🏼 What ethical challenges do you face now that weren't as prominent even five years ago?
If you don't have time to read now, save it in your bookmarks for later - you'll thank us!

Book of the month 🌱⬇️
This may be a bit of a cheat - but in a month where we focus on Ethics, it seemed only fitting to celebrate and unpick the Ethical framework.
📖 From Level 2 onwards, our students study the BACP Ethical Framework with a view to becoming BACP student members, before qualifying.
The BACP Ethical Framework underpins learning, skills development, and professional growth. Early engagement helps students build ethical awareness and confidence throughout their training journey.
Its overall purpose:
⚖️ To protect clients by promoting safe, ethical, and professional practice
🔀 To support ethical decision-making, particularly in complex or challenging situations
🤝 To set professional standards that promote accountability and trust across the profession
How it benefits your clients:
🤲🏻 Provides clear boundaries and professional conduct
🗣️ Increases safety, respect, and confidentiality
🌅 Promotes and ensures confidence in ethical, client-centred practice - within those agreed boundaries
How it benefits you, as students and counsellors:
🙋Provides clear guidance when navigating ethical dilemmas
✍️Supports reflective and responsible practice
🌱Offers a strong foundation for professional identity and integrity

"The framework identifies key personal moral qualities, including candour, empathy, humility, integrity, and respect. These aren't add-ons to our technical skills - they're central to the therapeutic relationship itself." Eileen Fisher, Lead Tutor Training Academy
👉🏼 ⌨️ Look out for | Later this month, our Lead Tutor, Eileen, shares her perspectives and experience of working with the .official Ethical Framework. It's a must-read blog, and one we can't wait to share.
Jess's story | Part 2: "Teaching support is unlike anything I have ever come across; I studied elsewhere for my Level 3 because of how the classes fell, and it gave me the comparison. I also attended other open days... To summarise, I had no doubt in my mind that the teaching quality, knowledge, skills and personal development that The Training Academy offers is beyond comparison to other colleges." Jess, Level 4 Year 2 student.
Thank you for sharing your story with us, Jess!💫

"In my early professional years, I was asking the question: How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth?" Carl Rogers
Carl Rogers speaks here about his insights on personal development, how his experience has taught him to look at himself and others differently.
Later this month, we delve deeper into Ethics in practice and training and the .official Ethical Framework...

"I want to continue to communicate with potential students, students and staff in a way that aligns with our values.
As a student myself, I experience magic the Academy offers its students - It's truly unique, second to none.
I firmly believe the Academy should be a 'go-to' for all future counsellors." Mel, Marketing Coordinator

"An inspirational centre which is organised, compassionate and aimed at allowing people to fulfil potential.
I chose the centre for its small groups, integrative approach and personalised guidance that was offered. The people who run the centre are caring and determined to bring the best out in all who study there. This is the third course I’ve done there in two years and although the progress has been steep, I’ve felt supported each step of the way.
The counselling rooms are of a high quality as are the resources available (for example the reference library).
For any students considering the academy, I’d recommend the centre strongly. It has an atmosphere of calm and cultured learning and I have no hesitation in recommending." Level 4 student.

📘 Knowing your 'stuff' is more than theory and books...
Why is personal development so important in counselling training?
If you’re training to be a counsellor (or thinking about it), learning theory is essential — but it’s only part of the journey.
Personal development helps you:
• Build self-awareness
• Understand how your own experiences shape your work
• Develop empathy, resilience, and ethical practice
• Grow into a counsellor who can work safely and effectively with clients
At the Training Academy, personal development isn’t an add-on — it’s woven through everything we do, from reflective practice and skills work to journalling and residential weekends.
✨ Read our latest blog to explore why knowing yourself matters just as much as knowing the theory — and how we support this throughout our training programmes.
