The Nursery children had a fantastic time on Sports Day. They were timed doing an obstacle course, where they climbed, balanced, jumped and hopped. The children took part in different races including the egg and spoon race and beanbag balance.

ST HILDA'S SUMMER FEST 2023 - EVERYONE WELCOME!
In Nursery, the Book of the Week has been ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. The children have learnt the story and performed with actions. We made jam sandwiches to take with us on a bear hunt. The children learnt how to use a knife to spread the jam. All of the children enjoyed sitting together and eating the sandwiches. They talked about the shapes of the sandwiches.

The theme this week has been spiders. The children have been making their own spiders. They have read ‘Aaaarrgghh Spider!’ and ‘Incy Wincy Spider’. The children investigated the best adhesive to use to stop Incy Wincy from sliding down the drainpipe. Gross motor skills were developed when the children were invited to negotiate the spider's web.

Cherry class have been investigating which materials are conductors and insulators in science. Our science mascot, Albert Einstein, helps us to understand each week what our scientific focus is and which scientific skills we are using.
Maple class enjoyed making sun glasses in science to protect their eyes from the sun's dangerous ultra violet rays. They know that the sun can be good for you , but can also be dangerous.
Year 1 Foxes - In Science, we have been exploring which materials are waterproof and which are not.
Year 1 Foxes - In PSHE, we have been looking at how to overcome personal challenges and barriers.
Year 1 Foxes - Making fruit and yoghurt Union Flags for Year 2 to taste.

Elm class have been getting stuck into their History topic this term. They have been learning about the key ancient civilisations that helped shaped modern life. This weeks' focus has been on Ancient Egypt and The Shang Dynasty. Here Elm class are exploring some artefacts.
Week commencing 17th April; The theme in Nursery was snails. The children have been learning about the artists Henry Matisse and Andy Goldsworthy. They created artwork in the style of these artists. We have also been taking care of snails.
A huge thank you to all our children and families that attended SHAFLA's first Eid market On Monday 24th April . We had a lovely turn out and the children and their families had lots of fun. All the money raised will be going towards our Year 5's residential trip In January. Can't wait for our next SHAFLA event so keep your eyes and ears open everyone!

16 children from Years 3 and 4 attended the Oldham Active's Gotta Dance Competition and performed their modern/contemporary dance routine that they have been practising in their after school club with Miss Bainbridge. School are very proud of the effort and confidence that you all showed performing in front of a big crowd and a BIG thankyou to all parents who came to support with us! Go Waka Warriors!!
DT - Bird Houses
Year 6 have been creating 'Exploded View' and '3D View' working diagrams to help with the manufacture of their bird houses.
The children in Nursery have been learning about dogs and how to care for them. This week, they had a visit from Mrs Graham’s cocker spaniel, Sweep. Sweep loved meeting the children and enjoyed lots of cuddles!

Word Book Day in Cherry Class
School Council and our Junior Management Team had such a fantastic experience yesterday! As part of the ’School’s Linking Project’ with South Failsworth, they were able to visit the Council Chambers for their leadership training and they even got to meet the Mayor of Oldham! We felt very privileged to be invited into her parlour for juice and biscuits too! As always, our children were a credit to us and we can already see future leaders in them all!

This week has been Science week. In Nursery, we read 'Jasper's Beanstalk'. The main character in the book is a cat. The children met Mrs Ali's cat, Chucky. They talked about her appearance and how to look after her. All of the children enjoyed playing with her! The children measured beanstalks using cubes. They planted a seed and wrote some instructions.
