Instead of a standalone academy we decided to join Oasis Community Learning as our sponsor. ✨What a Week: Year 6! ✨

🖊️ In English we have been inspired by our text ‘There’s a boy in the girls’ bathroom’ by Louis Sachar. We have planned and written our own inspired stories using colons, semi-colons and a range of clauses.

📖 In reading, we have been reading another text by Louis Sachar- Holes. We have debated different punishments, compared characters and evidenced all of our impressions with quotes from the text. We have also enjoyed using Reading Plus to help improve our reading speeds. We are loving the leader board of words read across the class.

🧮 In maths, our work on multiplication and division has continued and I was the proudest teacher when the class showed incredible understanding of square and cube numbers!

✨What a Week: Year 5! ✨

Year 5 have been working hard across all areas of our learning and have lots to celebrate. 👏

📚 English
We have worked incredibly hard completing our independent writes for our own versions of The Boy at the Back of the Class. We have been focusing on our handwriting, presentation and, most importantly, taking pride in the work we produce. ✍️✨

🔢 Maths
We completed our post-unit quiz for Place Value, showing off everything we have learned. We are now ready to begin our next unit on Addition and Subtraction on Monday!

🌍 Geography
We have been exploring landmarks from different countries across Europe and sorting them into human and physical features. We have enjoyed discovering some amazing places!

🎵 Music
Our excitement is building as we learn songs ready for our Young Voices trip in January. We’re looking forward to sounding fantastic together! 🎤

🏃 PE
We have been working hard to improve our fitness with Coach Alex from Active Oldham. We’ve been challenging ourselves and developing our stamina and fitness levels. 💪

🇪🇸 This week in Spanish, we have been learning the names of different sports. We used our knowledge to play fun matching games, carefully matching pictures to the correct Spanish words.

It was wonderful to see everyone working together, supporting one another and using their growing Spanish vocabulary with confidence. We had great fun while learning and showed fantastic teamwork throughout the lesson.

✨ What a Week: Year 4! ✨

Here’s a snapshot of some of Year 4s fabulously fun writing lessons this week! ✨ Following some chocolate tasting (important education!), in this week’s lessons, the children were working hard to grow their vocabulary for our character “Violet”, in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory🍫🏭

Then, the children used all the knowledge and skills they have developed over the past few weeks to help them plan their ideas. We’re looking forward to seeing there independent write next week! 📚

✨What a Week: Year 3! ✨

Our superstar Year 3s have been learning all about sentences throughout September in their “Fixing Full Stops” English lessons which are a key part of how we transition children in our school up to our juniors.

Here you can see the children spotting “alien” sentences which are missing a verb, subject or object and don’t make sense. They have also been ordering sentences to give cohesion across the paragraph.

In Maths, their firm foundations in place value are shining as they move into addition and subtraction calculations with three digit numbers.

✨What a Week: Year 2! ✨

Year 2 have packed SO much into our learning this week! We have:

🔢 In maths, we have been working hard on counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s, both forwards and backwards. We have found counting backwards in 2s, 3s and 5s a little tricky, so we are all going to practise this over the weekend! 🧠💪 We are SO close to getting the final few marbles in our class jar, so let’s see if we can make it! 🫙🔵

🐻‍❄️ In English, we have been learning all about a polar bear’s habitat and thinking about ways we can help to protect polar bears and their environment. We went outside this week and drew or made our own polar bear environments thinking about our science lessons where we focused on what animals need to survive. We discovered that even simple things, such as turning off the lights when we don’t need them, can help! 💡🌍 On Friday, we created our own posters to teach everyone how they can help save the polar bears. 🐻‍❄️💚

🦋 In science, we have been learning all about life cycles! We explored the life cycles of a butterfly, frog and human and enjoyed discussing which stage of the life cycle different people around school might be in. 🔄🌱

🌍 In geography, we began learning about the difference between aerial images and maps. We found it really interesting to see how different a map and an aerial image of the exact same place can look! We discussed how an aerial view is like what a bird sees from the sky. 🗺️📸

✨ What a Week: Nursery ✨

The nursery children have been busy exploring, discovering and making lots of exciting connections this week!

🎨 Sorting Colours: We have been exploring colours and developing our sorting skills through lots of fun, hands-on activities.

🦉We ventured outdoors to forage for our very own leaves before using our natural treasures to create some beautiful owls! The children loved collecting the leaves and getting creative with their designs. 🍂

We have also been looking closely at our own faces and comparing them with owl faces. The children have been fantastic at spotting similarities and differences, making wonderful connections and sharing their ideas.

👶 A Very Special Visit! We were absolutely delighted to welcome our very own Miss Elwood and her beautiful newborn baby! The children were incredibly inquisitive, asking questions, observing the baby and making lovely links to their own families and experiences. It was such a special opportunity for the children to share their knowledge and curiosity. Thank you Miss Elwood ❤️

✨ What a Week: Little Wizards ✨

🐰 The school pet, Marnie, came to visit Little wizards this week. The children absolutely loved watching our school rabbit. They were so excited to see her and loved having the chance to stroke her. It was a lovely experience for the children and they were all gentle towards her.

Our children were fascinated by how soft her fur felt and others enjoyed watching her hop. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn about our school pet and experience first hand caring for an animal.

💛 HELLO YELLOW DAY – WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 💛

On Friday 9th October, we’ll be taking part in Hello Yellow Day to celebrate World Mental Health Day and show our support for young people’s mental health. 🌟

We’re inviting all children and staff to wear something yellow to school that day — whether it’s a full yellow outfit or simply a yellow accessory.

We’ll also be raising money for YoungMinds, helping to support children and young people with their mental health.

With just £30 (that’s £1 per child in a class!) it can help YoungMinds to:�💛 Train young activists to have a voice and help shape the future of mental health support�💛 Support parents and carers through expert advice and guidance when they’re worried about a child�💛 Keep valuable online mental health advice and resources available to young people who need them
