IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ
(PUPILS & PARENTS)

We understand how frustrating the current driving test waiting times are. However, we are seeing an increase in pupils wanting to book or take their test before they are fully ready, often because parents feel they should be ready after completing a certain number of lessons.

I would like to clarify the following:

❗️Safety will always come before pressure or expectations. As an instructor, I have a duty of care to my pupils, the examiners conducting the test and other road users. For that reason, I will only recommend a test when I believe a pupil is genuinely ready.

If you or your parents feel you are ready before I advise it, you are of course free to take the test in your own private vehicle.

However, please remember that if your instructor is still:

🛑 prompting you when to change gear
🛑 asking you about speed limits
🛑 talking you through manoeuvres
🛑 telling you which lane or exit to take
🛑 helping you judge space or positioning

…then you are not yet driving independently, which means you are not test ready.

When you can drive consistently and confidently without any prompts or guidance, that is when you will start to feel what test readiness is like.

My role is to provide honest, professional advice to help you pass safely and confidently.

Remember — when the test begins, it is just you and the examiner. There will be no prompts, no guidance, and no help — only your own ability.

Feeling nervous is completely normal. If you are feeling unsure, this means more practice is needed to help build confidence.

🚗 PASSED BUT NOT READY

✋ Let’s talk about something uncomfortable.

Far too many people think instructors are only after their money.
They roll their eyes when told they are not ready.
They think lessons are being dragged out for profit.
What they do not see are the stories behind those words.

We have seen what happens when someone rushes to take the test before they are truly ready.
We have seen overconfidence turn into tragedy.
We have seen the quiet ones, the nervous ones, the “I will be fine” ones who go out alone and never come home.

We do not say “you are not ready” to control anyone.
We say it after years of watching what impatience can cause.
We say it after seeing flowers tied to lampposts and cars wrapped around trees.
We say it after hearing the silence that follows a family being told their child will not return.

The truth is that many can pass a driving test without being safe.
Ticking boxes does not prepare anyone for the realities of the road.
There is no examiner when you are driving in the rain, when headlights glare, or when a friend distracts you.
A certificate shows the minimum standard met.
It does not mean you are equipped to handle what life will throw at you.

Parents must stop rushing them.
Learners must stop comparing themselves to friends who have passed.
Everyone must stop assuming we want to keep them longer than necessary.
We are not here to take your money.
We are here to give you a chance to live.

Every instructor who has been in this industry long enough carries stories they wish they could forget.
We fight to prevent more names being added to those stories.
We push for readiness, not perfection.
We care more about your safety than your schedule.

A driving test is one day.
Driving safely is every day after.
Life is too precious to risk for the sake of being fast or cheap.
If we say you are not ready, it is not to hold you back.

It is to make sure you get to keep moving forward.
