The 9th of May is Europe Day. Marking the anniversary of the Schuman declaration, it is a celebration of the effort to bring about peace through a new form of political cooperation between the nations of Europe. In 1950, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman proposed the creation of an institution to manage the production of coal and steel across the nations, a move that is considered to be a major step towards the formation of the European Union that we know today. European Union citizens who live in the UK are being urged to check their eligibility to vote in the European Parliament elections which take place between the 23rd to 26th of May next year. UK citizens will no longer be eligible to vote due to the UK decision to leave the EU on the 29th of March 2019. Are you heading off to another EU country on holiday soon? Then remember to pack your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) along with your passport. This gives access to state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in any of the 28 EU countries as well as in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
