Maths and I have never had an easy relationship...
⏰ I remember in Year 3 having to stay in at breaktimes to do more work on telling time
❎ I remember in Year 5 sobbing because I wasn't very good at my times tables and EVERYONE else seemed to find them so easy
🧮 I remember in secondary school going to after school maths revision sessions in the run up to my GCSEs (... and I was so proud of myself when I got a C!)
👦 👧 I have empathy with children who 'just don't get it'. I understand how frustrating it is when you can't see how to get an answer. Sometimes it didn't matter how many times someone explained it to me, I just couldn't see it.
👩 So I pushed myself and when I went to university to become a primary school teacher I chose to specialise in maths (and history which I love!) and it wasn't easy but I did it!
💙 Having buckets of patience, explaining in different ways and sharing what struggles I had means the children I teach know that it's okay to make mistakes along the way and we will get there together 👊
Maths doesn't have to be this big, scary thing that you can't master...
.. and when I hear "I get it!!!", then I do a happy little dance 😊
