This week is also Road Safety Week and we have been using role play to talk about how to cross the road safely and to wear reflective and bright clothes now that it is darker for longer. We practice road safety every time we go for a local walk. There is a road safety meeting tomorrow at 10am at Hartshill Hayes Country Park where you can meet Warwick Bear and the Road Safety Heroes Team.

This week the children are learning all about spiders and pumpkins. They are exploring what's inside pumpkins and will be cooking with them to see how the pumpkin changes from hard to soft. They are threading their own spider webs and trying to rescue the spiders trapped in the web! We are reading the books The very busy spider, Room on the broom and 5 Little Pumpkins.

Don't forget to dress up in your spooky costumes this Wednesday and Thursday!

The children enjoyed making their own mushroom pizzas last week :)

Here are some of the interesting things the children have been learning recently; We are looking at mushrooms and leaves, shapes and the letter 't'. The children experimented with cornflour and water and added mushrooms! The book we are looking at this week is "We're going on a leaf hunt' and we are singing "Autumn leaves are falling down". The children have collected leaves to make leaf lanterns and bought ingredients to make mushroom pizzas. They have also made some mushrooms out of baked playdough to put in their fairy garden! We will post some more pictures of these exciting activities soon!

At the end of September we learnt all about apples and owls. The children made Owl bread, apple potions, explored apples and how they grow, observed how they changed inside when cut, used them to roll down tubes amongst other things! We read the books 'Apple, Pear, Orange, Bear' and 'The Owl Babies' and sang the apple song and 5 little owls. The children enjoyed making their own interpretation of owls using junk modelling and loose parts and used them in their role play to re-enact the story! Some of the children have been very responsible and independently cut up their own fruit at snack time and even make their own playdough!

We have been super busy at Tiny Treasures, exploring and learning! When the children came back to nursery in September, we talked about their summer projects (what they had done in the holidays) and All About Me. We talked about ourselves and our families and our differences. Some of us have blue eyes, some have brown or green! We also went for a nature walk to collect natural things for our nature shelf and we also walked around our local area and looked at different homes people live in and talked about where we live. The children love looking after our plants at nursery and know that they need water and sunshine to make them grow!
