It’s CHOOSE DAY - Tuesday and there’s no video today, however I’ve written you a post about something that I feel very passionate about!

Whilst on my hols I’ve been reading Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman. As I write this post (on a gorgeous beach in a little bay in Crete) I’ve realised that I was once on a radio show with Oliver Burkeman discussing happiness!

Anyway, back to the main point of this post - the content of this book is very relevant to ‘CHOOSE DAY -Tuesday’s’ as it’s message is about how we CHOOSE to spend our time, and what we CHOOSE to take action on.

The premise of the ‘four thousand weeks’ is that if you live until you’re 80, that’s roughly how many weeks you’ll get —this figure is, as Oliver Burkeman states “absurdly, terrifyingly, insultingly short.” (And that’s of course, if you do actually make it to 80.)

But putting aside how many years you, I, or anyone else has left on this planet, 🌎 we all have a bit of dilemma on our hands, and that’s our own delicate relationship with that time.⏳

This is something that, for me - both personally, and professionally has become my passion project. This is why I created and teach ‘Playing with Presentism’, and why it’s HOW WE SPEND OUR TIME that matters!

As Burkeman notes early on in the book, given the relatively short time frame of even the longest life, time management should be everyone’s most pressing concern. “Arguably,” he points out, “time management is all life is.”

But it’s not time management in the personal development / ‘10 Ways To Get Things Done ✔️ in Less Time’ genre, it’s the idea that the limited amount of time we have on this planet 🌎 isn’t just something we have to manage; it’s the defining feature of human life.

The fact that our existence is finite means that even the smallest decisions we make throughout the day close off countless other paths — other options for what we could have done with our time and, thus, lives we could have lived.

Every CHOICE we make is both life expanding and life contracting. As Burkeman puts it, “Any finite life — even the best one you could possibly imagine — is therefore a matter of ceaselessly waving goodbye to possibility.”

So today, spend more time purposefully and consciously being PRESENT to each moment you can be aware of, and recognise that each decision you make is actually a decision about how you want to live!

Happy MAD Monday everyone! Hopefully, you’ll now know that Monday’s purpose is to MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

When you set out to intentionally spread kindness and positivity to someone else’s life, it enriches your own - ten fold.

In the video (which was recorded in lockdown) I share a message that is just as relevant today, two years on.

It’s a BIG reminder of how precious this life really is, and how we should not waste the 86,400 seconds that are gifted to us each day.

The time that we are given, can never be banked for a rainy day, it has to be spent! So, this is why I’m so passionate about ‘spending your time’ with purpose and intention.

As you know, it’s not possible to go back in time and replay your day, so set the intention that today’s 86,400 seconds ⏱will be ‘spent’ pollinating your little place on the planet 🌎 with love, kindness and joy.

Sunday’s are the day to sshhh the shoulds, sshhh the criticism, sshhh the judgement, and sshhh the complaints.

We all have an inbuilt negativity bias wired into our brain- body- system that’s designed to keep us safe, and protect us from potential threats.

Unfortunately, in this overstimulated 21st century life, this survival mechanism has maladapted to focusing heavily on the negatives in our lives.

Understanding that physiological aspect of fear and knowing you have the ability to ‘interfere with fear’ is a game changer! You can ADAPT the response so that fear doesn’t get a grip on you!

So, Fear & Finish Friday’s are the day in which we utilise our ‘adapted response’ to help us to FINISH our week on a high. How good will it feel to finally do all the uncomfortable things that you’ve been putting off for weeks?
