Huge congratulations to BA (Hons) Graphic Design graduate Poppy, who has won the New Talent Award for Site-Specific Illustration at the World Illustration Awards 2026!

Her award-winning mural, A Whisper of Hope, began as a live brief at Nottingham School of Art & Design before being commissioned by Care Fertility Nottingham. Inspired by nature and the IVF journey, the mural explores hope, resilience and quiet strength through colour, form and hidden details.

Aden Dourmashkin, BA (Hons) Graphic Design.

I love reading museum exhibition guides, manipulating fonts, and staring at layout for hours. In preparation for briefs, I always immerse myself in the research phase. During the development of my editorial submission about the power of famine, reading about the victims experiences inspired me to use typography to personify their dread onto the page. I learned so much from that project, and In the future I hope to experience more by working in the editorial industry.

Marybeth Bettridge, BA (Hons) Fashion Communication & Promotion.

Studying Fashion Communication & Promotion at NTU has strengthened my understanding of cultural trends and publication design, allowing me to explore facilities that bring concepts to life. Craftsmanship and tactility play a key role in my process. Drawn to the beauty in the mundane, I enjoy uncovering complexity within simplicity and translating this into playful visuals. My final project, The Year of Arodazi, explores dissatisfaction with performative empowerment in mainstream fashion, proposing a more authentic alternative through storytelling, craft, and movement. Inspired by surroundings, trends, and culture, I’m excited to continue creating.

Ksenija Maksimenko, BA (Hons) Photography

My images for final year project are of young women that represent GenZ, the opposite of the perfect media image. I want people to feel the photos. I am particularly interested in portraits because of the human eyes. I always take my time to look into people's eyes in my photos, but sometimes it can be difficult to make real eye contact. I take architecture photos because of the shapes. I'm amazed by how different they can be, and how they change in pictures.I take photos and challenge myself to create them, because the process still surprises me. I mean, we have simple technology that can snap and create a simple photo, but our imagination can use this simple technology to create something complex and interesting.

Jamie Lee, BA (Hons) Costume Design and Construction

Jamie Lee is a costume designer and maker, currently studying costume design and construction at Nottingham Trent University. He has a passion for anything slightly dark and spooky, and is particularity inspired by gothic fashion when it comes to his personal sewing projects. He also has a love for tailoring and men's costume, as well as getting stuck into research of historical eras such as the regency and 1700s. Over the course, he has developed specialist skills in tailoring as well as developing new skills such as 3D modelling to create amour. His final project of third yea, when complete will be the ultimate passion project: an ornate Dracula costume, complete with embroidery, armour elements, leather and velvet.

MA Illustration student Muhammad Umair Khan, working under the name Umair Najeeb Khan, explores culture, identity, and everyday life through illustration and animation.

Drawing inspiration from food, family, and shared experiences, his work combines humour, warmth, and storytelling. During his MA, Umair also developed a more analogue approach to his digital practice.

After graduating, he hopes to publish his own illustrated cookbook and continue exploring food through his creative work.

ArtGoon returns to Broadway Gallery with his latest exhibition, *For Book Sake*.

Inspired by his love of books, ArtGoon reimagines iconic characters and familiar stories through bold, contemporary Pop Art.

Expect humour, wit and plenty of nostalgia, with each work offering a new take on the stories we know and love.

The exhibition opens tonight, **21 August at 7pm** at Broadway Gallery.
