Smoking during pregnancy or after birth increases the risk of SIDS If you or your partner smokes while you’re pregnant or after your baby is born, the risk of SIDS (also known as cot death) is greatly increased.

New data released by NHS Digital today shows that adult smoking rates in England have declined to a new low of 14.9% in 2017.
Whilst this is an encouraging trend, unfortunately there has been no substantial decline in the number of pregnant women smoking at time of delivery for three years, with the rate of pregnant smokers remaining at 10.8%. This highlights the need for much more to be done to support pregnant women to quit smoking.
