So one more sleep to go until the final of make a difference awards! We have amazingly made the final 4 in the environmental category and tomorrow evening we will find out the winners. We wanted members to already feel like winners and champions whatever happens. All the members are truly inspirational as they never lose enthusiasm for the project. It’s been truly an amazing project which not only helps the environment but provides members with all sorts of life skills . Counting packets, calculating how many strips are needed, washing safely, using an iron safely, working in a team to produce a final product, quality control, communicating with others, listening to instructions, presentation skills!! And much much more! Our new link to provide a minimum of 20 blankets by the end of September for is keeping them ever more determined! It really was a wonderful afternoon which members thoroughly enjoyed. One member was going to sit at home lonely all day but he was so glad he came in to try the boxercise. Another member had tummy ache and wasn’t sure he could do it but he forgot all about his tummy ache. One member felt really emotional in the morning but left smiling and so proud of herself . These small activities can make such a difference and make such a positive impact . Well done everyone at Open Wings proud as always to be involved with such amazing and outstanding characters ! 🥊🥊🥊 Thank you to The Pythian Club, Ben and Junior and thank you to Forever Notts for their grant funding .

The Open Wings team has been working really hard as we’ve set ourselves a target of 20 blankets to be completed before the end of September. The nights will be drawing in and the blankets can be used by someone in need and we will also send to . Making a difference everyday environment

A whole week already gone since our wonderful trip out to Skegness. In 13 years we’ve never attempted a big trip but that’s what everyone unanimously voted for this year ! Many thanks to for making it happen. On Tuesday we were on the air with talking about being finalists for the !

We are on approximately half way through just around the 8.30 am news !!

A bit delayed posting this but yesterday morning our interview for the BBC Radio Nottingham Make a Difference Awards was aired. We are finalists in the environmental category. For those of you that don’t know, Open Wings collects empty crisp packets and recycles them into foil blankets which can be used for people without warmth and shelter and we are also making some to send to Ukraine ! CityHubUkraine.

Members work so hard with so much enthusiasm for the project. They learn important skills such as working together, listening to instructions, following health and safety rules, using presentation and communication skills and growing in confidence. We are so proud of every single one of the members and so proud of this project and absolutely feel blessed to have even been nominated for the Make a Difference Award let alone be in the final 4 for the environmental category !

We believe our interview for the BBC Radio Nottingham a Difference Awards will be aired tomorrow , Sunday 16th August on the Breakfast Show and also aired again on Tuesday morning. It will be interesting to see what I actually said and hopefully it will really depict how wonderful all the members are at Open Wings and also show their enthusiasm and commitment towards our ‘Blankets for Warmth and Shelter’ project. If you didn’t already know we recycle crisp packets and turn them into foil blankets. Listen in tomorrow if you can on BBC Radio Nottingham Breakfast Show! 🙏

What a morning yesterday! Everyone was so excited to wekcome Beth, Social Media Journalist for BBC Radio Nottingham. Everyone was a bit star struck and quieter than usual. However we managed to demonstrate how we make our blankets for warmth and shelter and everyone was able to express how proud they are to work on the project and how good it makes us all feel that we are making a difference everyday 😀
