Hi everyone 👋 just sending a quick hello from very sunny Devon.
Also wanting to quickly let current parents know that we’ve recently had a complaint to OFSTED. Apparently we have been seen to have had 17 children unsupervised. I wanted to just clear up my views on this just as I have done to OFSTED who appear more than happy with my response (even though it caught me off guard on my travels to holiday!)
Yes we’ve had 17 children. Yes we were (and always will be) well within our ratios with 4 members of staff, especially with it being the summer holidays and having older children also. In fact we were 7 under ratio with 17 under 8’s 😂 I could have managed with 3 of us, however we still had 4 due to ensuring children are well cared for and, funnily enough, well supervised!
No they were not at any time unsupervised and by unsupervised I mean out of sight AND hearing. We still do hand overs at the door so even if I was daft enough to leave children unsupervised, no one would actually know!
On this basis alone, I can only assume the complaint has come from someone overlooking our garden who appears to believe the children are outside playing alone.
I would also like reassure parents that children are still supervised outside and just because a staff member cannot be seen (from wherever peeping Tom is peeping from) doesn’t mean they are not there. We have a shaded hut in the garden staff like to sit in, we also have a cosy den staff sit in with the children and staff also sit by the patio doors on a comfy chair taking 10 mins to rest while the children are playing. When working a 10 hour busy day I find this more than acceptable while we let the children run around on their own for a short while (supervised, of course).
Due to the complaint being anonymous, and the possibility someone could have been looking into our garden closely enough to count 17 children, I would like to reassure parents that due to safeguarding reasons, I will be taking precautionary measures to ensure that this is not the case going forward. As part of our risk assessments (and this will be written and reviewed by all staff on my first day back to work) we will regularly check no one is looking into the garden and if we find this is the case, then I will be taking appropriate action immediately.
If the person who made the complaint is reading this, then thank you for trying to look out for the children. I would never have an issue with anyone having any sort of concern regarding children’s safety however making it anonymous is a little odd to me. Approaching me directly would have saved OFSTED a lot of hassle, and surely is a more grown up approach. As agreed with my direct neighbour, who would always approach me directly regarding anything.
Anyway, if anyone has any questions or concerns following this, please let me know. Im an approachable person 😂
I know for sure all you lovely parents have no concerns regarding this before I even typed this, however I like to be open and honest so thought I’d type the unnecessary message anyway! Hope your little ones aren’t missing me too much. See you in a week x
P.s thought I’d add a photo to remind you all what a goof I am, and to show you how I’m very closely supervising my children 🥰
