This weekend, the Under 14 Girls' Redhill Academy Trust Handball team represented Nottingham at the National Finals at the Lee Westwood Sports Centre at Nottingham Trent University.

Olivia and Lily from CFS were part of this team, with Leah also having played but today being unavailable due to other sporting commitments. Olivia also had the honour of captaining the team today.

Within the competition they were facing some tough competition from teams such as Bishop's Stortford, West London Eagles, Stafford and Trafford. These teams are well established Handball teams who train together and compete in local leagues regularly.

The girls qualified through from previous rounds in the competition and with their new kit (and hair glitter) they were ready to take on the challenge they faced.

They unfortunately lost their first game against a tough Bishop's Stortford side, who then went on to win the National finals overall. The girls' spirits were not dampened, and they played some great Handball and scored some outstanding goals in the final 2 games winning both to qualify through to the semi-finals. The girls then faced Trafford, the game was close, but Trafford took the edge to win the game by a small margin.

With the girls now playing in the 3rd and 4th place play off against West London Eagles. The game was extremely tight and physical with both teams taking the lead and then pulling it back. The score with a few minutes to go was 10 - 10 when we were unfortunately on the wrong end of a couple of time out suspensions and some decisions not going our way the girls, narrowly lost out to game (13-10). The girls finished 4th overall. They were certainly deflated and felt like that 3rd place medal should have been theirs.

A huge congratulations to all the girls from the Trust schools who represented today, you have certainly paved the way for girls Handball in the future, and we hope to compete again at this level.
