☀️DONT RISK YOUR DOGS LIFE☀️
Know the signs, start cooling, call a vet
Signs of heatstroke can progress very quickly. It only takes a 2°C rise in body temperature for heatstroke to kick in. Once in heatstroke, your dog can suffer from brain damage or even death in 15 minutes!
If you think your dog may have heatstroke it is vital that you immediately start cooling them down and call a vet for further advice. Getting early advice and treatment is essential to saving a dog’s life. Research has found that in the UK, 1 in 7 dogs that are taken to vets with heatstroke don’t survive, although 98% that are seen early with mild signs are likely to recover.
Keep your dogs safe in hot weather!

When your 26kg hunk of muscle bull breed is too wimpy to walk past a 4kg cat so she resigns herself to being trapped at the top of the stairs until she is rescued 🤔🤭

It’s looking like it’s going to be a scorching bank holiday weekend, so it’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with what temperatures are safe for your dog☀️🐶
Every year our vets treat hundreds of heat stroke cases and, heartbreakingly, some end in tragedy. Many are unfortunately a result of owners not knowing the dangers of exercising their dogs in temperatures to hot for them to handle.
Heat-related illnesses are almost always preventable. DONT TAKE THE RISK and make sure your pet isn’t overheating in the sun.
Temperatures over 24 degrees will be uncomfortable for most of our dogs, so make sure you are walking them at the coolest times of the day or simply keep them at home and give them some mental stimulation and enrichment things to do instead.
If you think your dog may be suffering from heat stroke, contact your vet immediately! If out-of-hours, find your nearest emergency vet.

Following a number of recent reports of confirmed and suspected appearances of blue-green algae in lakes and ponds around the UK, we would like to remind all dog owners to be vigilant when walking their dogs around water.
Blue-green algae is most common in stagnant fresh water during hot weather, but can also occur at other times of the year.
Although not all species are toxic, many blue-green algae contain or produce a variety of toxins. Exposures in animals usually occur when they drink water from ponds or water bodies where the algae have bloomed. In dogs, exposures have occurred as a result of swimming in affected water bodies and also from grooming after dermal exposures. The toxins produced by the blue-green algae can have a high acute toxicity and exposures frequently result in fatality. Clinical signs vary depending on the toxin(s) involved but can include gastrointestinal signs, hepatic failure and neurological changes.
If there is any suspicion that a dog has been exposed to blue-green algae, vets can call us for advice on 02073 055 055. Owners can call our Animal PoisonLine on 01202 509000.

Warning!
All spring bulbs are toxic to dogs if ingested. They are part of the allium (onion) family and can cause severe gastrointestinal irritation, seizures, breathing difficulties and even cardiovascular issues.
A dog owner whose pet died after visiting a tulip festival urges better awareness of the risks tulips pose to dogs 🐶💔
Jemma Ladwitch was unaware of the danger when her spaniel, Bobby, passed away shortly after the event. She hopes to prevent similar tragedies for other dog owners. Farmer Copley's director noted they have updated their website with safety information and added signs about the dangers of tulips 🌷

Due to a bad cold, for the last few nights I have been in the spare room which has meant that both dogs could sleep with me.
Seriously guys! I love that you want to be close to me but I slept like I was in a coffin ⚰️ 😏

I love her, but…..
Does your dog do anything you wish they didn’t? With Winnie it is the daily need to bath her because she is wearing fox or cow poo like a cheap suit.
She absolutely stinks 💩
If you could communicate with your dog and ask them to stop doing something what would it be?

New rules from the CMA on veterinary costs.
My vets have always provided a written estimate of costs and have always been transparent about costs. But not all vets are the same.
What are your thoughts?
