We're protecting the number 11 bus!

Earlier this week, 22 pre-school children and their teachers went into town on the number 11 bus to visit Central Library. Without public transport, small early years settings like ours would never be able to go on trips like this outside of our local area.

Thank you to all the lovely Nottingham City Transport bus drivers and passengers who tolerated us, and to all at Nottingham Central Library for a fun-packed morning.

We are taking part in this year's Lady Bay Arts Community Project alongside . Children on opposite sides of the river are creating a paper chain - each link drawn and decorated by a different child. The completed chain will be on display at Lady Bay Arts Festival Weekend on the 16th & 17th of May.

We'll be on the school playground throughout the weekend, hosting a workshop so you can come and join in with the project too.

And that's not all - Lady Bay Arts is also working with a school on the other side of the river, who will be completing their chain in the run-up to the new bridge opening in June. Then they'll bring both chains together and join them to span the bridge.

"Every link is unique. Together they tell a bigger story."

Another Greek recipe from scratch - horiatiki or Greek salad.

The children chopped olives, feta, tomatoes, cucumber and red onion and mixed them together with olive oil and a little dried oregano - tasty!

We've enjoyed a culinary tour of Greece this week.

On Thursday, the children made tzatziki using Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, fresh mint and olive oil. And pitta bread for dipping. Delicious!

One of our favourite trips to The Hook took place this week. Keith and Karen from Lady Bay Birdwatchers took us for a walk to listen to the birds. Keith brought his fancy telescope with him, and we got to see a few birds close up. One of the children was able to take a fantastic photo of a greenfinch sitting in a cherry tree!

We know that learning about nature makes us more likely to care for our environment in the future. Keith is incredibly knowledgeable and a great teacher and we're so glad he and Karen came back again this year.

Back at pre-school, we spent a lot of time with our singing bird toys, finding out what species they are and even building a home for them.

We heard and saw 23 birds:
Common Whitethroat
Lesser Whitethroat
Garden Warbler
Blackcap
Chiffchaff
Cetti’s Warbler
Dunnock
Blue Tit
Wren
Robin
Long-tailed Tit
Great Tit
Crow
Jackdaw
Magpie
Goldfinch
Greenfinch
House Sparrow
Collared Dove
Wood Pigeon
Swallow
Jackdaw
Blackbird

A sneak preview of what we'll be doing next weekend on the school playground...

Something special is taking shape. 🎨

As part of our annual Community Project, pupils at schools on opposite sides of the river are creating a paper chain — each link drawn and decorated by a different child.

Lady Bay Primary School and Lady Bay Pre-school are both taking part, and the completed chain will be on display at Festival Weekend on the 16th & 17th of May.

And that's not the end of the story. We're also working with the school on the other side of the river, who will be completing their chain in the run-up to the new bridge opening in June — when we'll bring both sides together and join them as one.

Every link is unique. Together they tell a bigger story.

The nautical theme continued back at pre-school...

When we asked the children what they might see if we went down to the river, the response was: "Sharks!"

We didn't see any sharks, but we did pass a crocodile.
