This is the Joseph Whitaker School Young Engineers Club page. Please "Like" the page and help us build up a STEM community!!!
I am Mr Worsley and I Teach at the Joseph Whitaker School in Rainworth near Mansfield in Nottinghamshire. As well as teaching Electronics and Systems & Control, I also run the Young Engineers club. This page cannot fully show you how much we do and what fun we have doing it! Have a good look and you will start to see just what a group of committed 11-18 year olds can do!

As supporters of The Joseph Whitaker School Young Engineers, if you feel able, could you please support Tregi Worsley in helping fundraise for Ashgate Hospice, who supported Phil Worsley as they dealt with Phil's cancer diagnosis and beyond.

Phil’s wife Tregi has asked me to forward a personal message to parents and students, both past and present.
Dear All
I have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of emotion at the news of Phil's death. It is comforting to know that he was loved and liked by so many people, both pupils, parents and staff who have all remembered specific moments and sent their love and thoughts at this difficult time.
Those who knew Phil know that he was a private individual, and with that in mind, along with other things we had talked about, a small private cremation will be taking place next week.
As Phil was always about rejoicing achievements, the school and I are going to plan a celebration of his life, to take place in the New Year, where pupils, past and present, along with anyone else who knew him, can share memories and remember all the fun times that they created together. I hope that many of you will take solace in this, and will be able to use this event to treasure all the experiences Phil was able to facilitate.
Kind regards,
Tregi Worsley
Phil Worsley
It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of Phil Worsley, Design and Technology teacher and creator of the Young Engineers Club, on Wednesday 6 November 2019.
Phil had been diagnosed with advanced oesophageal cancer in April 2019. He was aware that the prognosis was not good but in typical Phil fashion he dealt with it pragmatically and with greater regard for his wife’s welfare than his own.
The word ‘legend’ is used far too easily to describe people but in Phil’s case it is justified. He was a Joseph Whitaker School ‘legend’. He joined the school in 2007 and throughout his time at school he did what we all aspire to do…make a difference to children’s lives.
As a Tutor, Design and Technology teacher and leader of the Young Engineers club he was passionate about all aspects of his job. He gave both his time and his own money to make the Young Engineers a beacon of excellence both within and beyond school. This included numerous national awards and two Guinness World Records for our rocket car speed projects. This club and their achievements became one of the flagships of the school working with Rolls Royce to showcase our young people to Prime Ministers and royalty! In May 2017 Phil received personal national recognition when he won the Clark Prize from the ERA Foundation. He was also made a Fellow by this prestigious foundation.
However, Phil’s motivation was in making the Young Engineers passionate about engineering and fulfilling their potential as students. Phil demonstrated the same passion in his lessons; an exceptional teacher who consistently delivered outstanding electronics results. He truly was a one off.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Phil’s wife Tregi, his family and his friends at this very sad time.
