I've spent several sessions chopping, raking, shifting, tidying... The compost area looks pretty good now!

I was busy over the winter 'wfh' on a new project at Highbury Hospital, 'My Year In The Garden' for the Green Hub. I've written a page for each month of the yar with idea for getting started gardening, and what to do each month. Here it is:
My year in the garden There are always opportunities to tend to the garden or just sit back and watch the wildlife. Take a look at what activities you can be do in the garden/outdoor space each month.

Two years ago I spotted several rosettes of Bee Orchid (Ophrys apifera) at Highbury Community garden. Last year I was thrilled when one flowered. This year there are over 20 rosettes, so I've taken action to try to preserve as many as possible. I got some advice from the Orchids of the UK page, and translocated some so that they covered a more compact area. I didn't have success translocating some a couple of years ago, so I'm pleased to be able to leave some where they are. They are marked. There are also some outside the little fence (which I shall replace with something nicer) so it is almost a proper experiment.

This is why I don't like landscape fabric! It would be much easier to remove couch grass without it...

Everything's blooming in the garden... (Highbury Community Garden)
2011 and 2017 I think. Some old friends, one or two no longer with us...

More grunt work at Highbury Community Garden - putting together a 4x4 foot planter for pumpkins and filling it (well, partly) with home-made loam.
